"there's nothing "clean" on radio zumbido's music and the sense that you're listening to a broken Mexican radio through the wall of a Tijuana motel is incredibly immersive. (RES magazine)"

"Radio Zumbido is an experimental one-member act, created by multi instrumentalist juan carlos barrios, who collects music and field recordings from the streets and especially the AM airwaves of his native Guatemala, creating some wonderfully unique music that exists between textural electronica and instrumental melodic folk.
…He has released 2 albums so far: los últimos días del AM (Palm Pictures, 2003) and pequeño transistor transistor de feria (Quatermass 2007). Apart from the savvy production, I also appreciate the way radio zumbido has interwoven electronic and latin music; his pastiche is seamless enough that it would be difficult to say he has appropriated one music into the context of the other" - Michael Sulivan, All Music Guide
+++reviews:
"Radio Zumbido creates the perfect documentary soundtrack for a film that does not exist. The new album sounds like old Bomb Squad era Public Enemy." - Brainwashed Mag.
"The new album is subsatantially more stripped-down and organic. Most tracks document the sound of displacement, of living in multiple cities wether as an inmigrant or an itinerant musician in the laptop era. It's a fascinating collage" - Global Rhythm
"Grossartiges Kopfkino!" - Ox Fanzine
"Sometimes the combinations are simple but perfect, as with the gently Boards of Canada-like melody riding atop the busy drum jams of "Revuelta". On balance this is a surprising and engaging album that rewards re-listening" - All music guide
"A cette fois été glaner ses sons dans un environnement urbain, du côté de Barcelone et de Los Angeles, deux mégalopoles où la culture latino étincelle de mille feux, crépite de mille et un rythmes endiablés - Orkhestra Int.
" I would place it somewhere between Boards of Canada and a lighthearted foray into reversed guitar psychedelia with a Latin undertone to the whole thing" - Foxy Digitalis
"sono sempre ricche di sfumature eleganti e il disco potrebbe essere un piccolo cult per l'estate elettronico-alternativa di chi non si ferma alla superficie. Originale!" - All about Jazz
"Instead of simply loading up on native instruments and foreign language vocals, the album instead allows those elements of the surrounding culture to seep into the mix while still maintaining its own edge and style" - Braiwashed Mag.
"Diese episch-filmischen Skizzen sind Ergebnis ständiger Bewegung zwischen den Städten bei der Suche nach der Musik für einen Dokumentarfilm" - GROOVE DE
"Apart from the savvy production, I also appreciate the way RZ has interwoven electronic and Latin music; his pastiche is seamless enough that it would be difficult to say he has appropriated one music into the context of the other" - Tiny MIx Tapes
"Radio Zumbido just released a CD compilation of Garifuna traditional music with the belgium Sub Rosa label. (Dec.2008)
The CD contains old field recordings from the Garifuna people in Livingston, Guatemala and it can be purchased online (CD or digital download) or music stores (amazon, fnac, etc.)
The royalties from this album go directly to the Ibimeni Organization in Livingston Guatemala to support the Garifuna people and culture.
