Rae’ are the type of band you very rarely find today. A band that actually utilises the many genres at their disposal to create their own sound. And an unforgettable sound it is.
Members Leonie Evans (Vocals/Guitar), Asha McCarthy (Cello/Vocals), Dan Truen (Drums) and Leon Boyden (Bass) met at Dartington College of Arts in 2006. Here they found the many musical influences from around the world at their fingertips and formed the band ‘Rae’. These influences can be found in all of their music; ranging from North Indian to jazz, from classical to funk, and from folk to rock. This means the band’s music can chop and change in mood, and subject matter without it seeming too drastic. If this is the key in the music then it is enhanced by Dan and Leon holding up the rhythm section so well, enabling Leonie and Asha to float around weaving whatever hypnotic melody they may please.
Rae have a strong following in the South West of England which has helped their attendance on the stage at many festivals around the country, even supporting Billy Bragg in 2008. A tour around Europe is being planned for the new year, but in the mean time you can find them at www.myspace.com/raeonline And if you enjoy that, then have a look at another band that features members (Leonie and Leon) of Rae; ‘Bert Miller and The Animal Folk’, another interesting group of musicians.

"Leonie and Asha from Rae were wonderful, I hope we’ll have them back before too long. They reminded me of why I love Radio 3’s Late Junction. They’ll now be lending Traydio that warm, eclectic, exotic Late Junction feel."- Wondermentalist Cabaret, March 31,2008 .
