Rafael Ernesto Godoy was
born in Caracas-Venezuela in 1980. The grandson of Colombian composer
Rafael Godoy, started studying classical guitar and Venezuelan music with Antonio
Zapata at the age of 12. As a teenager Rafael played in several rock-pop bands,
however, at the same time he never forgot about Venezuelan traditional music.
At the age of 19 Rafael moved to Sydney-Australia,
where he studied classical guitar, composition, performance and electronic music
with Dr. Trevor Pearce, Kemo Bunguric, Ken Burns and Shannon O'Neil.
Media has also played an important role for
Rafael Godoy. In 2003-2004 Rafael produced and wrote music for three short films
in Sydney .
In 2005 Rafael released Nostalgia, a CD containing
traditional music from Venezuela. In July 2006 Rafael released ::Dialogo:: This EP is an eclectic mixture of electronic and acoustic instrumentation, soundscapes, elaborated voice textures, industrialised sounds and Latin American crossed-rhythms.
::Diálogo:: was mixed and recorded with the help of Australian sound engineer Jason Dirckze.
Rafa Godoy is currently based in South Australia teaching, performing and producing music.
There are two releases due in 2009. Homage To Rafael Godoy and Aurorae Australis.
2004 Manly Jazz Festival, 2004 Newport Arms Festival, 2005 Autumn Festival Armidale, 2005 - 2006 South American Bondi Festival, 2006 Peats Ridge Festival.
