Our Arrangements
The Ragtime Skedaddlers play arrangements for two mandolins and guitar from original sources, including Whitney-Warner collections published in the first decades of the 20th century. Some of these collections are available on Jon Goodin's Mandotopia website. See also The Rag Time Ephemeralist, Number Three, for an analysis, history and full reproduction of the never-before reprinted Joplin string band arrangements, published by Stark, by highly-qualified Dennis Pash.
A hundred years ago, ragtime was America's original popular music, a blend of Afro-American folk roots with marches and old-world dances. While usually played today as a solo piano music, in their time rags, cakewalks, and marches were often played by string bands consisting of mandolins, banjos, and guitars.
The Ragtime Skedaddlers bring you syncopated hits like Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag" and "The Entertainer" in period arrangements for two mandolins and guitar.
"These rags will add materially to the gaiety of nations." -- John S. Stark

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
