"No Other Name"
(between broken voice and blaring lights)
~A BEAUTIFUL REVIEW OF JERICHO~
intoxication in it's most frustrating form.
unable to articulate, or string together any reasonable sentences aloud. jump ahead to a tiny apartment in Harlem.
right out of the cab and up the stairs and into her bathroom
and then the kitchen for my one of many glasses of water in a feeble attempt to sober up
- just created more trips to the bathroom.
her bathroom.
jump to me in her bedroom / living room / music room.
i listen to something that may become my new favorite song.
then i get the live version.
her vocal chords are scratched but i can't tell over all the soulful lyrics. she says ' i sound better when I’m not hoarse,'
but i don't believe her;
not because i think she's a liar, but because it hurts my head to imagine such a thing.
her voice penetrates my eardrum, but in the best possible way.
jump to later in the night when she says she brought me there to entertain me while i wait for my train.
jump back to me sitting there in awe because the percussion of her fingers against the keys
because it takes my breath away.
i wipe a tear into my sideburn and continue to listen.
if i knew the lyrics, i would ruin the song by singing it.
i'm thankful that i don't. i'll just have to wait 'till it comes out on cd so i can do my version of singing (yelling) it on my way to work in my car.
another one escapes my ducts and it joins it's partner in my soggy sideburn.
jump to her ending her little concert and turning towards me.
she doesn't turn and expect compliments, she knows she is fantastic.
i've hardly the vocabulary to praise her anyway.
i want to clap, give her a standing ovation but i remain seated.
i may not show it but i'm blown away.
nevertheless, i get up and take my foolish smirk with me to the bathroom. jump to me driving through Tennessee.
Jewel comes on the radio and for some reason i jump right back.
i'm sitting on her bed / sofa / computer chair;
we're on the rooftop in manhattan;
we're back in the Italian restaurant,
with the worst service ever,
cracking jokes and she's convincing me that some crazy chocolate dessert is the way to go.
jump to me in arkansas.
i'm laying in my bed in my house on west woodview
and i stare at my walls.
i stare at my walls and all i can think about is Jericho.

In His image I sing;
Humbled spirit I bring
this offering to my Savior.
His servant I've become,
Such honor;

give me a minute
the mud.s on my shoes
cause it rained
i mean poured
when i walked out on you
there.s a towel in your arms
they open to me
the love on your face
is the air that i breathe
you don.t clean my mess
you take all of me in
are you forgetting i.m filthy
do you know where i.ve been
say that you.re angry
cause then i can deal
with the pain that i.ve caused
you.re making me reel
and i.m falling
you catch me
like you knew way before
i couldn..t handle the mercy
i.d find at your door.

rahc El is a young singer songwriter out of New York City. Originally from Jamestown, New York, rahc El moved to the city in the summer of 2002 to attend The American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
While in New York she teamed up with The Ambassador of Urban Soul, Studio Steve Wallace to create her debut alterna-soul album, Steadfast.
