These days there aint no villages raising children, there aint no street light curfews, & there aint no Saturday morning family time where you and yours clean the house while checking out the soul train line for the latest dance steps and coolest new tunes. Now-a-days, we live in a world where no one cares about their neighbor, kids arent expected to respect the old heads & music is sterile, tired, manufactured & inorganic. Still in all, it is often said that It is darkest before the light so in the immortal words of the creator Let there be light & the light is that of our bright new shining star Rahfiki.
The name Rahfiki is Swahili for friend & the moment you hear the sincere warmth and familiarity in his music and voice youll feel as if the cool cat next door just sat down with you to converse for a spell. Rahfiki is a throw back to the many soul moments in time when artists like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder & Chaka Khan made monumental impact on the sound that is known as soul music today. He has cultivated and honed his song writing and crooning abilities to a fine craft of art that, while damn good at first listen, only appreciates with time.
Amassing a body of work inclusive of live performances and recorded material, Rahfiki has built both great stage presence and a healthy catalogue of songs that are worth thier weight in platinum. While performing with an up and coming Hip-Hop / Soul band Rahfiki has performed at Chicago hot spots like Hot House & Wild Hare. He was also a finalist in Chi-towns licensed version of American Idol aptly entitled the Chicago Idol, for which he performed at the historical Auditorium Theatre in front of a full capacity crowd of nearly 4000 people. During his weeks of competing in the 107.5 WGCI (Chicagos Clear Channel owned & operated power house) sponsored landmark event he made a lone finalist appearance where he sang live on the Crazy Howard McGee morning show. During his college stay at Russ University Rahfiki opened for the likes of Ricky Smiley and while on summer vacation back home in Chi-town he wrote and sang on much of world renowned poet Kweisis upcoming CD entitled The revolution is Love. He is also featured on indie release The 3rd Weapon. His song Telephone Call Away is being played on college radio stations WKKC & WHPK not to mention regular rotation at local Steppers Parties.
