Described by Lonnie Donegan himself as 'bloody good', Railroad Bill play raw, gutsy skiffle music on the simplest of instruments - washboard, tea chest bass, guitar and mandolin. With an act that has been honed on the streets and on the stages of the UK and abroad, they have been described as 'Lonnie Donegan on Speed' - and we're not talking dustmen here - the material is rooted in American Blues - songs of Gambling, Trains, Drinking and Prison - A sort of Sea Sick Steve meets the Ramones...
Now widely regarded as the punk music of its day, Skiffle has too long been tarred with the brush of a few novelty hits, when its real power was bringing black american blues music to a generation of teenagers a full 2 years ahead of the rock and roll revolution. Thanks to skiffle, once rock and roll hit the UK, British teenagers were ready with the guitars, the licks and the attitude to take over the world.
