About me:
Railroad Square Cinema is independently owned, operated, and opened in 1978. The first cinema was a previously abandoned warehouse located by the railroad tracks at 17 Railroad Square, Waterville, Maine. Railroad Square began with the ideas from six friends; Gail Chase, Ken Eisen, Lea Giadin, Alan Sanborn, Sam Sanborn, and Stu Silverstein, who came to the collective decision that Maine needed its own art-house cinema. In 1994, the initial building was destroyed by a fire. However, through fundraisers and donations from the local community, the present-day cinema was built.
The cinema has three screens. Each screen seats a different number of patrons, 150/90/50. It is the home of the
Maine International Film Festival, which started in 1998.
