On July 21-31, 2007 RWF journeyed for a fourth time to Guatemala bringing a group of 15 people from the United States and Canada. Thanks to all of you who made this journey possible. You helped Rainbow World Fund bring $13,000 dollars to aid the sustainable development projects we support. We carried eighteen hundred pounds of supplies valued at over $100,000 to share with people in need of basic care. Over the past four years RWF has delivered over $500,000 in humanitarian aid to communities in Central America.
As we traveled around the country learning about the lives of others we also shared our stories as LGBT people.
Our 11 days in Guatemala were exhausting and exhilarating, all at once. As a witness to the desperate needs of the Mayan people and to the dedicated people who work to overcome poverty, disease, and illiteracy, it is our job to tell some of their story. Our guides were two American nuns who have spent many years in Latin America and were there during the height of the war and knew personally many of the nuns and priests who were kidnapped, tortured and murdered. Throughout the trip we were in constant awe of all the courageous people we met.
Founded in 2000, Rainbow World Fund (RWF) is an international relief agency based in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and friends community.
RWF’s mission is to promote LGBT philanthropy in the area of world humanitarian relief. RWF works to help people who suffer from hunger, poverty, disease, oppression and war by raising awareness and funds to support relief efforts around the world. RWF provides a united voice, a large visible presence, and a structure to deliver LGBT charitable assistance to the larger world community.
RWF works in the LGBT and friends community educating people about world need. Along with raising our community’s consciousness, RWF raises funds to support humanitarian relief projects.
We take LGBT giving to the next level. Rainbow World Fund reaches out beyond LGBT community to share what HIV/AIDS and our civil rights struggle has taught us about caring, giving and loving. RWF provides a platform for LGBT compassion and concern to be seen and heard throughout the world.
We are changing how the world sees LGBT people. Much of the world still sees LGBT people as only caring about sex, drugs, and materialism. We care about a lot more than that. RWF puts our highest beliefs and values into action.
RWF is the first LGBT based world relief agency. We unite LGBT people and resources with others throughout the world who are working to heal our planet.
Currently our work focuses on global HIV/AIDS, water development, land mine eradication, hunger, and disaster relief. RWF currently supports projects in Africa, Asia, Central America, the Caribbean, and the United States (areas hit by Katrina).
So far, we have raised and distributed over $1 million in humanitarian aid, thousands of pounds of medicine, medical equipment, condoms, and schools supplies. We support orphanages, school, medical clinics, micro-credit projects, and much more. You can help too: please donate
