About me:

Rainbow is all systems go!

Thanks to all who came and helped us launch the 2010 Rainbow Juggernaught. The night was a huge success and we were glad to see so many happy smiling faces there.

Naturally we’ve upped the stakes again for 2010, securing some of the world’s best musical talents from across the globe. There will be soul saving workshops, activities, art, mouth watering food and of course YOU, the funky, friendly people that continue to make Rainbow such an amazing weekend of connecting and reuniting.

Keep an eye on the website for more announcements and info in the weeks to come … but to get things started here are our first few special announcements.

New Act Announcements!

Most DJ’s play songs which producers make. Then there is Robert Babicz who makes music, which touches people and has a lasting effect. Robert Babicz has been said to be the most versatile producer coming out of Germany for many years. A true pioneer of minimalistic sounds as well as raw groove, an innovator of sound who has managed to define his own genre, whether producing Tech House, Minimal or Acid Techno.

Every Babicz track can clearly be distinguished by his powerfully mastered, deep compressed basslines and effects. Also worth mentioning is his constant releases on top labels such as Systematic, Kompakt/K2 , Audiomatique, Out Of Orbit, Punkt, Treibstoff and Mille Plateaux.

By simply looking at his studio we can understand why Babicz’s tracks are truly appreciated whether on the dance floor or simply easy listening. Every aspect of the Babicz sound is amplified and tweaked to the maximum. The German wizard assumes control of the sensory abilities of every person on the dancefloor from the moment he hits his first note and proceeds to play as a musical puppet master from the helm of his 100 per cent live set up.

Dave Tipper is a British producer and DJ specialising in nu skool breaks, electronic and trip hop. Although mostly known in the breakbeat scene, Tipper's output includes strong hints of electro and idm amongst other styles.

He is known for his interest in extreme bass frequencies, with his releases often including lengthy subbass test tones at the end. He, and likeminded people from his label Fuel Records, have also engaged in stunts like emptying a swimming pool, covering it with an acoustic canopy and enjoying the bass, or drowning out The Prodigy on the main stage of the V Festival with their car sound systems parked several miles away.

The son of The Kinks founder Dave Davies, Russell has always been exposed to strong musical influences. Citing Acid House, IDM, Dub and Trance as influences, the electronic music scene of the early nineties was a massive inspiration to Russell.

In 1998, after travelling in India, Russell collaborated with his dad, under Crystal Radio, writing Purusha and the Spiritual Planet (Meta Media), an inner musical journey fusing ambient & trance with classical & rock guitar. The success of this project prompted Russell to study Electronic Engineering and Music Technology at University, where he could at last submerge himself in his music obsession.

Abakus’ music is awash with exuberant melodies and hooks, combining music genres to defy pigeonholing. A central feature of his music is its strong melodic thread. His first 2 albums
“That Much Closer To The Sun” and “We Share The Same Dreams” have been well received for there lush production and rich sounds full of colorful optimism. Russell is also known for being one half of Nada (LiquidSoundDesign) and remixing the likes of The Orb & Kooler.

Community Arts Funding Opportunity

With our festival program growing each year, Rainbow is dedicated to supporting more artists of various styles to help them achieve the successful development and exhibition of their ideas.

To assist with this goal Rainbow has established the Rainbow Serpent Community Arts Grant Scheme, whereby new and established artists can apply for funding to assist them in realising their projects. We encourage everyone to bring their creative ideas and flavour to Rainbow, as a reflection of our culture and we hope this scheme will encourage even greater artistic expression and unique art endeavours to come to life.

This can be represented by visual, digital, sculptural and recycled arts to name but a few. Rainbow Serpent Festival encourages art in its multitude of cross genre forms and is particularly looking for artists to approach us with their ideas on independent visual and installation arts throughout the festival grounds. This also includes arts works that prominently define festival areas.

This year the grants have been divided into the following packages.

  • 1 x $2000
  • 4 x $1500
  • 2 x $1000
  • 10 x $500
