Michelle D. Giles singer-songwriter (Jan.15, 2010 Facebook friend invite to Rainer message)
- excerpt [interview quotes and info errata noted]:
In the wake of a quake that crumbled an impoverished island nation Tuesday, locals are opening their hearts and wallets to help from a world away.
“This indiscriminately killed women, men, children, rich, poor, all colours and all cultures.
These are fellow human beings of ours,” said charity concert organizer Rainer Bronner.
“You can either tune disasters like this out, or react in a positive way.”
Within 24 hours of the 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Haiti, Raindance River Boots [ Rubberboots :-) ] was offered musician’s time and free jam space [line-up of live original music recording artists], for Thursday night’s fundraiser at The Hydeaway.
“We’re not fireman, doctors or nurses. Music was what could we [we could] do very quick in response,” Bronner said. Net proceeds from the event will be sent to Doctors Without Borders, an aid organization on the front lines in Haiti. .... [actually advertised then fulfilled as 1/2 to Doctors w/o Borders, 1/2 to Red Cross - every penny collected was donated .. artists, sound techs, promotion team all wholy 100% donated their time, energy, performance, and promotion costs]
On Saturday night four local rock bands will take to the stage in support of a registered Canadian charity that provides assistance and advocacy to children in war-torn countries around the world. .... all net proceeds going to War Child Canada.
Event organizer Rainer Bronner say the styles of rock include New Age [ambient new wave rock], modern [modern classic rock] and alternative. He believes the scene is well-suited to music lovers ranging in age from 18 to people in their 50s [Rainer actually didn't note that 50s yrs. ages was the interest limit, but rather musicians ranged in age from teens to 40s, and that even his 80+ yrs. young father might show up], and says the goal is to create a safe and inclusive event.
"Our presence there, bringing positive music, positive art... is helping that revitalization mode they're in," says Bronner, referring to the Arts on the Ave revitalization project.
He points to firefighters serving as voluntary security guards as an example of the neighbourhood coming together for a good cause.
"A lot of the people from the community have come on to help make this run as cheap as possible to maximize what we give to War Child," he said.

WALK4JUSTICE 2008 (Vancouver to Ottawa Summer June 21 to Sept. 15) EDMONTON STOPOVER EVENT
July 3/08 @ the Canadian Native Friendship Centre
This event's goal was to raise awareness and action about all murdered and missing Canadians including the very high rate of Aboriginal women and girls (but also many men and boys) - a human crisis that has Amnesty International urgently calling on the Canadian government and citizens to take decisive action to help stop more killing and violence. It is estimated that of the 3000+ Canadian women and children listed as murdered/missing in Canada since the list's founding after the 1989 Montreal Massacre of 14 Female Students - that about 75-80% are Aboriginal.
Walk4Justice reached Ottawa and on Sept. 15/08 delivered a petition to the Federal government that more action be taken to prevent these crimes, and bring killers to justice while finding the many missing.
Due to a walkers support vehicle accident just prior messing with the event's vibe and scheduling we cancelled the round dance that Thundering Spirit drummers were going to lead, world champ hoop dancer Adrian LaChance, and also Greg Amundson and Jan Randall had prepared and intended to perform. We did have Elders prayers and blessing of food (soup, bannock, turkey) plus some of the invited recording artists performed gentle music as we chilled out (in alphabetical order: Mike Ehlers, Dennis Frigon, Gautam Karnik, Paula Eve Kirman, John Spearn, Ken Stead, Ari Volk did reduced sets.
To whom it may concern. My name is Gladys Radek, Advocate for the Highway of Tears and organizer for the walk4justice happening this summer from June 21, 2008 to September 15, 2008. This walk will be from Vancouver to Ottawa to address and honor all our missing and murdered women across the country.
This letter is to confirm that Rainer Bronner, director of Rain Dance Rubber Boots music and art team is arranging and directing a music and artist line-up for the Edmonton stop. We are very honored that they have offered to entertain and hold events for our family members and walkers in Edmonton. Thank you for your generous support in this very serious issue. We will be in Edmonton July 3 and 4, 2008. Much Respect, Gladys Radek Advocate for the Highway of Tears organizer for walk4justice2008 604-253-5989 or walk4justice2008@yahoo.ca
