.. .. .. .. ...... Layout by ..CoolChaser.. Background from ..flickr user.. .. .. ...... .. .. .. .. .. .. ..In the autumn of 2008, the local music scene in central Pennsylvania was over-run with bands covering Nickelback, or ending in the suffix "core". It was difficult for original bands to find venues to perform, and many bars had "cover song prerequisites" before allowing you to set foot on their stages. Other bars were playing DJ's, who's talents scarcely exceeded pressing "play" on the in-house sound system to appease the hordes with something they could relate to... ..Then, by 2009, a new band had formed. A band who considered them an alternative to the same old, a band called ..Rain Must Fall..... ..Despite the previous ten years of Altoona's local scene being dominated heavily by heavy metal cover bands and/or country-tinged acts, a small bloom had flowered as a drop of rain fell into the soil of Altoona. Jarrett Bickel (Altoona) and Michael Kensinger (Tyrone) met up at an Eatin' Park to talk about how they wanted to bring something new to the scene. And so, the core what would be RMF began as they searched for musicians who shared their aspirations... .."Jarrett and I came together in fall of 2008," says RMF frontman Michael Kensinger. "we wanted something fresh, honest, listenable, and original." Bickel and Kensinger noted how the idea of starting a ska band had crossed their minds for awhile. However, their roots in the alternative music era were strong, and so as the group formed, they wrote, eventually adding the beautiful and talented Bree Gearhart to the line-up as the second guitarist for the group. Shortly thereafter, the blood of the band began pumping as the quirky Hunter Karns joined the line up with his bass and on-stage antics, and the band found a drummer in Bobby "Ziggy" Zeigler. He was the drummer for Rain Must Fall starting in June 2009 until his depart from the band in March 2010... ..With a full line-up the band booked their very first show, an acoustic show, at HeBrew's Coffee Shop in Bedford, Pennsylvania. After a series of acoustic shows, the band amped it up and brought the electrical energy of a new-found alternative rock group to one of their shows in Pittsburgh. The ball began rolling, and in due time the band had t-shirts, wristbands, and had begun recording on an EP with friend Steven Wells in Altoona with the going title "CARVING ON COFFEE TABLES"... ..After headlining at ALDO's in Juniata with much success, music guru Jim Price noted the band's energy, and freshness. Mr. Price went as far to say they were a "breath of fresh air to the local music scene", and went on to compare them with a blend of The Cure and R.E.M... .."Their music is rock, with a catchy pop hook that will jump up and grab you by the ears. The lyrics are first-hand accounts of the band's life experiences, which is nice when all you normally hear in the scene are songs about wild parties and sex." says one fan. "It's good to see a band who can write their own music, and write it well.".. ...... ..The band has many plans for 2010, and becoming top dog in the local music scene is one of them. The musical hopefuls have already been played on MERF Radio (Lewistown, Williamsport, Huntingdon), an FM Bedford station, Logan Valley Mall, Pittsburgh, and New York City on various stations. They will be featured in PA Musican Magazine, Jim Price's HOMEGROWN ROCKER, and have been booked for a, well, very big show in Washington D.C... ..So, welcome to the new year people. And by the way, you may want to get out your umbrellas, 'cause in 2010 there's going to be a LOT of RAIN!..
