Started purely as a labour of most love post ' the acid house revolution ' releasing 12"s of underground Deep House music, as label Rainy City Music out of Manchester (UK ) in 1996 by Mancunian Dj Irfan. Focusing on releasing very limited titles, with a strong emphasis on different music cultures from across the globe. The label is run by experienced Djs and producers who concentrate on the more musical side of club grooves under various different monikers including, THELASTICBAND, CITY PEOPLE, GALERA and LA GENTE URBANA. In 2007 it will concentrate on House music, Brazilian music, Jazz, Broken beat and Nu Soul. Check Rainy City Music.com to hear snippets of previously released music for now. The label is now in 13th year and the a&r policy is very diverse now, more so due to the digital download explosion/crisis. You can find all new DIGITAL releases via TRAXSOURCE/ITUNES ETC So far it has released House music, Electronica, Samba Jazz, Samba funk, Batucada, Afrobeat, Latin jazz, Nu Soul and Hip Hop, through it's labels RainyCityMusic, TestingTheH2O and MusicaBalanço. Rainy City Music has hosted parties over the last 15 years including some of the world's best bands and Djs including Sugarman 3, Sharon Jones and The Dapkins, The New Mastersounds, Afrodizz, Kokolo, Jair Oliveira, London School Of Samba, Jazzinho, Questlove and The Roots, Bobbito, Mad Mats and Freddie Kruger, Patrick Forge, Joe Claussell, Jerome Sydenham, Dj Cosmo, Phil Asher, Norman Jay, Gilles Peterson, Dave Angel, Orlando Voorn, Dj Spinna and many others.The label continues its long running Brazilian parties in Manchester ( various venues ) and London ( Guanabara, Holborn ) playing the best contemporary Samba, Pagode, MPB, Forro, Funk , Hip Hop and Reggae, with Djs Franco Ze and Irfan. Our current party COMMUNITY takes place on the first Sat of each month, currently at Manchester venue SPECTRUM, has included performances by PHIL ASHER, AFRONAUT, OLI LAZARUS, DOMU, SIMBAD, SOLE INTENT, SY SEZ, JOJO FLORES & JIMPSTER amongt many other cats. As far as house music goes ( having supported and promoted it for 20 years now ), there are still too many out there who don't digest other music enough ( phew got that off the chest ! ) Apart from artistic cutting edge Black Music, important info and knowledge, a strong interest in politics ( viva Noam Chomsky ), justice for the unspoken heard, New York( not the shi shi side !! ) So join up and converse with we!
