IT LASTED ALMOST A YEAR (The story of R.Y.K)
Raiskattu Yhteiskunta was four guys messing around with instruments and playing as loud as they could. We didn't know how to play and didn't care.
It was year 1995 and hardcore punk was a lifestyle we all shared. All R.Y.K members lived in Tampere, Finland. I met "Hasti" through a friend at a Kuolleet Kukat show in Tullikamari (early 1995). He asked me to join in a band called 'Vainaat'. So, i did. First 'Vainaat' rehearsals was terrible, but after that, it developed something...well, maybe a bit better, or not. We changed the band name to 'Raiskattu Yhteiskunta' (yes, very original). The lineup was Marko: vocals & guitar, Hasti: guitar & backing vocals, Janne: drums, Myllymaa: bass (the guy stole my first guitar after i kicked him out off CC, hah!). Our influences included bands like Kaaos, Rattus, Riistetyt, Bastards, Lama etc.
The first (and last) R.Y.K studio sessios was held in 'Studio-Pöhnä'. We recorded ten songs. It took one day. And yes, we were drunk.
In that same time period, there were a lot of punk bands that some of you might remember, for example Kuolleet Kukat, Silmäosasto, Ehtoollinen, Hiippakunta, Panokone, Osittainen Halvaus etc. Jakke Hallikainen from Kuolleet Kukat was a big influence to R.Y.K. In fact, he booked our first gig. It was held at I-Klubi, Tampere. Back then we had changed our name to 'Endless Angel' (what a stupid fucking name..we were also known as 'Distress' for a month or so) and started to play some kind of grunge hardcore punk. Well, it was shit. The show was terrible. We were drunk (not the drummer). After the show, a security guard throwed us a way. We still got paid, thank you Jakke!
After the first (and last) R.Y.K / Endless Angel show, we recorded a Endless Angel demo. We weren't playing punk anymore. We were playing "grunge", or something like that. It was really shit. I mean REALLY shit. So, we decided to end the band. Or, maybe it was just me. Don't remember. In the end of 1995, Candy Cane was born and that's another story...
There's no pictures of R.Y.K. Only a demo tape that captures that one day in 'Studio-Pöhnä'. We were pretty sure that R.Y.K was gonna be the biggest punk band in Finland. Well...maybe it didn't turn out that way...but hey, it was fun...and yes, it was the beginning.
