Simply stated, Claire "RÁJI" Rodriguez is a singer/songwriter and poet who has been artistically inclined since childhood. With a range of influences including Meshell Ndegeocello and Bjork, Claire has developed a sound that is both distinct and versatile. Fittingly, her music has also been compared to that of Norah Jones, Sade, and Fiona Apple.
As an adolescent, Claire followed her passion for art to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and the Performing Arts where she studied classical voice. It was through this diamond mine of a young arts community in midtown Manhattan where she began showcasing her songs and poetry. Throughout college she performed at some of the most well known venues in Philadelphia including World Café Live, North by Northwest, The Rotunda, Fergie’s Pub and The Fire. In May 2008 she self-released her debut album, Words of Abstract under her former stage name, RÁJI.
During her recent recovery from a deep depression brought on by the death of her grandmother, a near death experience in a Greyhound bus accident, and a broken elbow, Claire re-discovered the power of poetry and song as healthy coping mechanisms. Approaching her music from a more honest place, she also decided to use her given name. In pursuit of a meaningful and creative life, Claire has expanded her journey to help transform the lives of people in the community through music and art.
