Hola! Soy Rafael Burgos, gracias por tomarte el tiempo para ver mi trabajo. Soy Ilustrador Profesional, Artista Conceptual, y Creador de Modelos (escultor).
Nací en Managua, Nicaragua, pero me crié en Miami. Pase el mayor tiempo de mi infancia entre ambos lugares, mi educación fue mayormente en Florida.
Asistí a la Universidad Dade Community en Miami para mi asociación en Arte (AA degree: Associate in Arts). Después de eso recibí una beca completa en Ringling School of Art and Design, obteniendo una licenciatura en Ilustración y Arte del Cine, BFA (Bachelor Film Art) y un técnico en Fotografía. Fue en Ringling School donde descubrí mi verdadera pasión y la dirección exacta a la cual quería dirigirme.
Después de mi creación de la Sirena Negra, (La Sirena Negra fue mi proyecto final que presente como tesis) decidí estudiar una carrera en filmes como Director de Arte. Luego asistí al American Film Institute, un mundo completamente diferente de las galerías y de las pinturas que me desvelaban noche tras noche. La escuela de filmes me enseño más de lo que yo pensé llegar a aprender y como ser capaz de evolucionar en un campo tan difícil, de entregar a tiempo a pesar de la exigencias del trabajo. AFI me abrió las puertas en diferentes medios creativos y me permitió aprender de los mejores productores en Hollywood: de James Cameron, director de Terminator, The Abyss y Titanic, de Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump) y Michael Bay (Transformer 2).
AFI me dio la oportunidad de elegir un proyecto tesis, rediseñar un filme ya presentado en el pasado. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea fue mi elección, una novela de Julio Verne.
20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, esta creación fue inspirada por la novela del grandioso Julio Verne (1828-1905). Mi propuesta fue de forma animada, iniciando con el nacimiento del monstruo, la recreación de la bestia más salvaje del océano (The Nautilus), Capitán Nemo y sus fieles seguidores. La creación de este proyecto me tomó 6 meses de cansadas e interminables noches, solo con la fiel compañía de Chewy, mi mascota perruna. :9 Inicie con muchos conceptos y bosquejos, parte por parte fui iniciando la forma de la bestia. La construcción de un modelo a escala fue la parte más retadora de todo el proyecto.
Junto con la tesis fue la producción del filme The Violin, el cual se puede apreciar un poco en esta pagina. En las mañanas trabajaba arduamente con el modelo de escala y luego salía en carrera al set para construir el campo de concentración de Auschwitz. Esos fueron los días más locos de mi vida.
Pues trabajando con la gente en el mundo de los filmes me doy cuenta que el autocontrol, la responsabilidad y talento es la llave para cualquier colaboración de trabajo que te puedan dar.
20,000 Leagues fue el proyecto personal más exitoso que he tenido porque muchos no tuvieron fe en él y muchos decían que no era necesario tomarse el trabajo tan en serio, y de manera tan extrema y con la responsabilidad y disciplina que el proyecto requería.
“Lo que haces en la vida hace ecos en la eternidad”, esta fue la frase mas influencial para mi, la dijo el general Maximus en la mejor película Romana de todos los tiempos Gladiator. Esta frase se mantuvo en mi cabeza por varios años y desde que yo la escuché siempre la mentalizo al comienzo de cada proyecto que se me ha asignado.
Actualmente estoy con un proyecto personal Squadron knights (Escuadrón de Caballeros) trata de una historia sobre el viejo mundo olvidado colindando con el mundo actual y lo que queda después de las grandes guerras mundiales. Este escuadrón de nobles bestias comparten una nueva ideología de las relaciones sociales y políticas que existen entre los países del mundo , el querer vivir en paz e igualdad los motiva a formar este escuadrón siendo ellos los pilotos más destacados de cada nación, Squadron Knight son la formula que va a lidiar con los viejos visitantes…

Hi I'm Rafael Burgos and thank you for taking the moment to see some of my work. I'm a professional Illustrator,Concept artist and model maker. I was born in Nicaragua Managua and Raised in Miami. I spent most of my young life between both places and earned most of my education in Florida. I attended Miami Dade Community college for my AA degree. once after, I received a full scholarship to Ringling School of art and Design there I earned a BFA in Illustration and a minor in photography. It was at Ringling where I found my true passion and my true meaning. After my creation of La Serena Negra I decided to pursued a career in Film as a Production Designer. After Ringling I was chosen to attend the American Film Institute where I started a whole entire different world from the hanging galleries and the sleepless oil painting nights. Film school though me more then just perspective and how to be able to deliver on dead lines. AFI open the doors to many creative path and allowed me to learn from some of the best movie makers in Hollywood. From James Camron creator of Terminator, The Abyss and Titanic To Robert Zemeckis and Michael Bay on Transformers 2.
I'm currently working on my personal project called Squadron Knights
Squadron knights is a story about the old forgotten world colliding with the new world. and whats left of it after the great world wars. Squadron knights are the last brave ace pilots from each country. With all countries at war and no one to trust. These ace's have more to lean that whats really against them.
20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA. a JULES VERN NOVEL. This creation was inspired by the great Jules Vern 1828-1905. At the American Film institute I was given the opportunity to select a thesis project to redesign any selected film that's been done in the past. 20,000 Leagues was my choice. My approach to it was in a animated form. Starting with the birth of a Monster the recreation of the best that creeps in the sea ( The Nautilus ) to Captain Nemo and his fellow crew members. it was a 6 month creation that took many endless night with my fellow companion Chewy. I began with many concepts and sketch, sketch after sketch I began to form shape to the beast. The construction of the Scale model was the most challenging part to it all. Along with the Thesis was the film production of the Violin seen at bottom portion of this page. Mornings I spend with scale model till later I had to Run over the set to construct the Auschwitz concentration camp. It was the most back breaking days of my life. La Sirena Negra was a personal none collaborating project. So working along people on a films is something where self control is the key to any collaboration assignment given. 20,000 Leagues to my account was the most personal successful project I had because many had no faith and many warned me that it was not necessary to take it to that extream. " What you do in Life echos an internaty'' it was the most influential comment said by General Maximus in the best Roman movie of all times ( Gladiator ). That phrases creep in my thoughts for many years and since Ive had it stamp on from the Beginnig of any project I'm assigned to.
