"Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Abraham Lincoln, George Mason. These were people who I found very wise. And in college, the man I was really most impressed with in the 20th century was Alfred North Whitehead, the British mathematician and philosopher. Not to mention Lincoln Steffens and the muckrakers, which were my cup of tea."
Here are some folks I would like to have a conversation with:
"Jesus Christ, who had a very strategic sense of getting people to accept his beliefs. And Voltaire, whose wit and insight were quite contributory toward a detached view of society, which is important; you can get so immersed that you lose your perspective. Confucius, who condensed a lot of wisdom into a very few words, something our politicians could benefit from these days. And Abraham Lincoln. Franklin D. Roosevelt, see how he responded in both economic crisis and war time crises. The great educators. John Dewey might want to know about what happened to some of his followers and doctrines, and schools. Especially in the athletic area, Lou Gehrig, who is my hero because he symbolized stamina under all conditions of pain and success by playing 2130 baseball games consecutively. I never lost the lesson of his performance, how important it was to overcome, be resilient, and to stay with it, stay the course."
About me:

Who I'd like to meet: "Participators" -Citizens who want to work for and demonstrate thoughtful politics that fulfill human possibilities: citizens to assemble together — all ages, classes and backgrounds.........We have a moral imperative to take a stand, help rescue our besieged democracy, and secure our country and its liberties. To restore the sovereignty explicit in the preamble to our Constitution — "we the people," not for sale, can decide to displace the corporate controls that try to make "everything for sale".
"Leaders"-We have got a great future if we wake up to it in this country. And anybody who starts out in this country who thinks that they can't be a leader ought to think again. There has never been a greater demand for leadership, in all areas: media, education, churches, government, business, you name it. There is no long waiting list to be a leader in this country.

Ralph Nader: "Things Are a Lot Worse than We Thought!"
The war on drugs is a scam for the Criminal Industrial Complex, like the war on terror, crime, immigration, etc.
It is being sustained by the very people who are fighting it, they will never give it up willingly, and they bribe politicians, judges, law enforcement officers, and the media to maintain it.
The answer is mass resistance, or civil disobedience.
Stop waiting for your "Representatives" to fix this, they won't, they work for the corporate interests, and they will never represent you or I, never.
This is why a Republic form of government is just as wrong as a Democratic form of government.
A republic form of government trusts a few rich powerful men to act on our behalf, and a democratic form of government allows 51 percent to dictate their will on the other 49 percent.
We need less government and in many areas of our lives, no government. That should be our goal.

"Potential Dangers of Approving Methyl Iodide Investigated"
I live in the district in CA where Bill Monning the chairman of the Labor and Employment Committee. I have no other connection to him. I just want to say that first. Now. I am trying very hard not to be pesticide biased either way.
That said, I was watching our local TV channel the other night it was a committee hearing about growing Strawberries. We are a big Strawberry area so this was very interesting to me. I was shocked to learn that SOME STRANGE CHEMICAL SALESMAN wants to spray 6 million lbs. of something called Methyl Iodide on our beautiful Strawberries!
California Assembly member Bill Monning wants to ensure everyone is safe and healthy: farmers and farm workers too from any potential danger from methyl iodide. This pesticide being considered for approval by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation because they know they will be losing money from the lost revenue of Methyl Bromide. We the people phase Methyl Bromide out in the near future because it is very toxic to the environment and all animals(humans included). Montreal protocol?
Assembly member Monning, conducted a wide-ranging informational hearing to review the possible impact of methyl iodide on farm workers, and our communities. Here’s more on the subject from Assemblymember Monning in this Assembly Access video.
