I'm a bit of a workaholic. Being primarily an actor it means I live to work rather than work to live.
Been round the block a few times, plugging away for 27 years and in 2010 I'm gonna be another overnight success, feels like the scales have finally tipped in my favour workwise. Loads of great stuff coming out next year
...Hmmmm....
I suppose music is my first love, I expect my wife to be my last...
My other interests apart from the obvious stuff.... Film. I have a passion for good cinema and have been privileged to be involved in some great films myself.
Politics. Always been politically motivated, and have been a bit of an agitator.
Football. Brighton and Hove Albion FC "The Seagulls". I'm a season ticket holder.
Butterflies. Spotting them in the wild, and if possible, photographing them.
Walking. People. Literature. Other cultures. Playing music.
Music

Time for a little negativity ?? If you read this far, god help you, you've got time, and bless you 4ever....but these are a group of people who DO NOT TOUCH MY SOUL JAH RASTAFARI.......... starting with the hugely over-rated Johnny Cash - what is this about - the guy couldn't sing, or write decent songs. In his first song he wrote "I killed a man in Reno just to watch him die"
Yeah, Johnny, really cool you big wannabe. Every time he played the song at some prison (where he secretly got a hard-on I expect) the inmates would cheer that line.
Would someone explain to me exactly what is so cool about that, and indeed him? Fuck off Johnny Cash !!
Right Rant over.......now who's left ?
OK U2 can eff off. One good song. Two then. The end.
50 Cent is a qumqwatt.
Great beats as ever from Dre, but the raps are dry.
I don't like Tom Jones, despite being a quarter Welsh myself (!) Overcooked belting like that doesn't do it for me (although I have a soft spot for Young New Mexican Puppeteer!!)
I don't like Guns n Roses, Kiss, AC/DC, Iron Maiden or other never-grew-out-of-early-adolescence cock rock.
I don't like irony either unless it's Randy Newman, who is a genius, the end.
OK Head battering over, relax, take another sip of tea, puff some weed and b r e a t h e . . .
OK album covers = an artist that I like and that I play a lot.........and includes these:
My favourite films ? As David Fincher said to me once (clang - whoops just dropped a name there, can someone pick it up ? thanks) - "Only study greatness" I think he was right.
Too much attention is lavished on poor quality work because it's considered kitsch or mildly amusing. Greatness is forever. So - here they are:
Andrei Rublev, Casablanca, Babette's Feast, Wild Strawberries, Psycho, The Exterminating Angel, Jules et Jim, Lawrence of Arabia, Touch of Evil, Blade Runner, Yaaba, Battle of Algiers, Love and Death, The Shining, Toy Story, The Conversation, A Scanner Darkly, The Name of the Rose, Seven Samurai, The Sound Of Music, Don't Look Now, Oliver!, Viridiana, The Seventh Seal, West Side Story, and, yes, Withnail and I.... yes!! The most well-known character I have played "Danny" the dealer from the motion picture film 'Withnail and I". But you knew that anyway. I repeat for the hard of hearing and slow of reflex.
Television
TELEVISION
As with Films above - these are NOT shows I've been in, my cv is elsewhere...these are all TV shows I would actually sit down and watch if repeated, or stuff that really moved me:
Star Trek, Lost In Space, Boys From The Blackstuff, Do Not Adjust Your Set, Question Time, Don't Watch That Watch This, Prime Suspect 1 2 and 3, Herge's Adventures of Tin Tin, The Singing Ringing Tree, Top Cat, Life on Earth, Countdown with Richard Whiteley RIP, The Prisoner, The Likely Lads, Steptoe and Son, Fawlty Towers, Twin Peaks, Star Trek again, Mad Men.

I am friendly. I don't look like my picture. Hey, the picture changes regularly-ish but I rarely look like it.
I'm an actor. I like pretending to be other people. I'm lucky - I get paid for it! Actually it's become a fetish. Perhaps I'm hiding - from myself ! heh heh heh
Regarding My SPACE (Baby) it's MINE ALL MINE : I hand-pick all my friends, I check out all friend requests and if I don't like your music (this is for the bands and musicians not the punters!) I won't add you. Nothing personal, but I am (partly) judged by my tastes.
If you check my friends you will see they are wide-ranging and cover every genre of music. I like listening to them all. But : I gotta LIKE it to add it. Fair enough surely he appealed to the audience but there was no reply.
I can be overwhelmingly generous to those I do like however !! Gonna have to trust me on that one...
I also have a page on Wikipedia, and I Twitter from time to time.
OK I WILL write a proper profile here one day, or someone else will....but for now I'm afraid, the deranged ramblings of the terminally over-sensitive thick-skinned intellectual stupidity that is me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me moi moi moi moi moi moi moi moi moi moi moi je je je je je je je je je je je je je je je je ich ich ich ich ich ich ich ich ich ich ich ich ich ich ich ich yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo yo I I I I I I I I I I I I I * an I for an I * * * * I am what I am* I am therefore I am* I think therefore I am* I drink therefore I am*
So. that's enough from me. How about you ? What do you think of me ? The Big I AM. I and I. What's it all about RAlphie ? Is it just for the moment we live ? What's it all about, when you work it out RAlphie ? Are we supposed to take more than we give ? or are we meant to be kind? And if only fools are kind, RAlfie, then I guess it's wise to be cruel. And if life belongs only to the strong, RAlfie, what will you lend on an old golden rule? As sure as I believe there's a heaven above, RAlfie, I know there's something much more, something even non-believers can believe in. I believe in love, RAlfie. Without true love we just exist, RAlfie. Until you find the love you've missed you're nothing,RAlfie. When you walk let your heart lead the way and you'll find love any day, RAlfie, RAlfie Ralphie...
...and if you read this far congratulations dear reader for here is a brief precis resume cv of My So-Called Life :
born in Cambridge to an undergraduate and his wife John and Heather my parents are both from Portsmouth.
Brought up in the Sussex countryside.
Schooled in Lewes (see bonfire in videos).
University at LSE - LLB a Law Degree 1979.
Then bummed around in a serious manner for 5 years, travelled to Mexico, caught Hepatitus B, worked in the Scala Cinema all-nighter during the Blitz Kids years, squatted, shagged, took speed etc.
Became an actor age 25 on tour with Moving Parts Theatre Company.
First professional job after that Steven Berkoff's WEST at the Donmar followed
by Royal Court, RSC, Tricycle, Joint Stock, Liverpool Everyman.
The only time I was seriously on stage as an actor in the last 20 years was in 2007 at The Bush Theatre in a play called "DYSFUNKSHONALZ" about an old punk band selling out their cred.
TV work too numerous to mention kicked in early 80s with The Bill, Touch of Frost, Ivanhoe, Lock Stock, Place of the Dead, A Respectable Trade, Lawless, Nighty Night, Cold Blood, NCS Crime Squad, Between The Lines, Spooks, Big Dippers, The Flood, Life On Mars, Cape Wrath, currently shooting The Cut series for C4.
Film : Withnail and I, Buster (Ronnie Biggs), Diamond Skulls, The Crying Game, Impromptu (Eugene Delacroix), Alien 3 (Aaron), Undercover Blues, Wayne's World 2, Up 'N' Under, Amistad, Star Wars Phantom Menace, I'll Be There, Mean Machine, Exorcist Dominion, Stoned, The Contracter, Caught In The Act, The Boat That Rocked, The Kid, Sus, Huge and so on.
I have written three plays : "Sanctuary" which won the Samuel Beckett Award in 1986 and The House That Crack Built and Drive Away The Darkness which have never been performed.
I have written 5 screenplays, one of which - "New Year's Day" - was shot in 1999 and released in 2001, winning the Raindance Film Festival and Sapporo Film Festivals in that year. The other four films remain unproduced to date, although one of them - "Red Light Runners" - managed to get four weeks into the shoot with a lovely cast (Mike Madsen, Harvey Keitel, Crispin Glover, Roy Scheider, Cillian Murphy, Kate Ashfield, Tricky, Rich Hall, Peter O Toole, and er...me) and a great director Mr Nick Egan before the producers inexplicably closed the film down (for re-financing yeah right) and no-one got paid {except the American actors} Bollocks to that !! so no more writing from me, just yet, concentrating on acting and - MUSIC.
I am a founder member of an amazing band, The Brighton Beach Boys, see below in friends.
Thanks for reading this far, I have been and continue to be Ralph Brown, and I am grateful frankly at this stage of the century for your interest.
To update my politics I joined the Green Party in 2008 when I realised they stood for Social Justice and weren't just an environmental group. they're about increasing Fairness in society and so am I. At the moment I am Press Officer for Brighton and Hove Green Party.
For more spiritual and personal matters, I have become involved in an inspiring project in Khayelitsha Township, Cape Town, after working there in February 06, for those who don't know Khayelitsha, it is a huge township not unlike Soweto on the east side of Cape Town.
The project is a model community attempting to be a self-sufficient organic place of healing. There are currently some 30+ HIV orphans billeted with familes in the area who are fed clothed and educated by the Ndlovu Centre. A clinic is being built as you read this, for educating young healers into the traditional wisdom and with a modern HIV clinic upstairs. If you feel depressed about your life ever, just click here, get involved and take them blues away... www.shaster.org.za
PS : I recommend you smoke some more grass.
Who I'd like to meet:
although I search myself it's always someone else I see........yeah too deep ok, .................................ok!
I'd like to meet Konnie Huq.... And Nelson Mandela obviously ! but it's tricky to meet your heroes, they might not match up to your internal image/fantasy/projection. I have met some of mine : Bowie (matched up) Speilberg (matched up) Viv Stanshall (matched up) and McCartney (matched up) so clearly I don't know what I'm talking about. There's a surprise then. We can all be heroes and not just for one day...
It should be noted by the short of hair that my best friends in Real Life and my Top Friends on myspace DO overlap, but only just. My real friends are in the following pages. I'm afraid I am shallow enough to pick my Top Friends from those who have brightly-coloured and spangly pictures, thus keeping in the spirit of hurt-your-eyes poptasticity which the rest of this so-called "page" indulges in.
Some of my mate's bands are in TOP FRIENDS though, and I recommend them highly, because they are fantastic, and if they weren't then they truly wouldn't be here...
Why not have LONG-MAN CHRISTMAS?! LOL!- Albums available giftrapped from the critically acclaimed sun-drenched: Simon Stewart , the soulful pop-stress: Jack Cryer, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (no explanation needed I believe), that scoundrel: Don Partridge, the particle-physicists night-mare: John Douglas Clark, Terry Emm (who the devil is that?! Not sure..) and my hero: Richard Durrant and many more great titles to choose from, of course. xxxxxxxxxx
Hiya Mista B!! Hope you've been well and doing loads of great projects this year, both musical and theatrical.. I haven't been myspacing or making much new music cos of some life changes and moves etc, but hopefully will do again very soon. All good with you and your beautiful lady? Hope so! Peace and Love, Debs x
Greetings. I just wanted to thank you for your continued support and invite you to have a first listen on myspace to the tracks off the new EP "Monster & Minstrel" due out later this month. Bright stars to you! Ahmond
Haha, well it was an ad warning of CO2. A dad reads his little girl a bedtime story about what we're doing to our planet (grim huh?) anyway, the actor playing daddy is clearly miming, and the soft, tender and warm tones did sound, to me at least, like yours truly. Oh well, as Peter Green would say
oh man, dude, that's brutal and lame. So sorry to hear you lost a gig. What's next in the future for you?
well, I often close comments on my blog posts cos most people have nothing intelligent/meaningful to say, but I really liked your responses that you left in some other blog posts I wrote.
Didn't you send me a message on youtube last night, saying you just saw my play and you liked my style..?.. now I realized it was actually someone else!!! Sorry about that
thanks for seeing my play. I really appreciate U taking the time and effort to see it in the West End. I'm also very glad you enjoyed it, too.
yeah, I'm actually trying to write a screenplay, a feature length one, about a high school shooting. I'm just playing around with character profiles, then I'll write it when I have the general storyline.
