Down the stairs, a creaking descent, a sudden nightfall; I enter the basement, where the creatures of emotion are free to escape their prison. They flow from my hand, into the pen, onto the page. They pluck the metal strings, press the ivory keys. They sing: they breath the words of fear and lonliness, they harmonize the questions and the worries, they howl the lamentations, the anger, the unacceptance. The basement echoes and shakes with the loose demons.
The strings finish their vibrations, the hand is lifted from the keys and the foot from the pedal. The beasts are called to return to their confinement. The notebook shuts, and elastic strap holds the covers tight, keeping them from escaping.
