Hi I’m Ramsay, I’m a multi instrumentalist / programmer / composer / arranger / engineer / producer. My studio is located in the STUDIO64 building on Victoria Rd, Rozelle. In an effort to explain what I do I’ve split my bio in 2.. One for the younger peeps and one for the more experienced vets ! .
For the youngens : .
I record and produce songs. If you have a song idea I can make the backing music for you. I’ve worked with a lot of singers that will just start singing something and that’s enough to get me started building the track. Some people have already written a song on an instrument or computer and I can record it and take it on a journey arranging it and adding instruments as necessary. Some people already have a developed song and know exactly what they want and I’m happy to sit back and just record the session. I’m into all styles of music and always look forward to new challenges. .
I encourage all singers to get motivated and come for a session. Unlike a lot of people with my experience I’m more than happy to work with up and coming independent artists. In a 4 hour session you can usually walk away with a good demo of the song, and with extra sessions we can refine it as much as needed.
.
For the vets :.
I understand the evolving nature of the music production workflow. I’m happy to be a part of that workflow in whichever way I can. I run a Mac/Logic system though I’m happy to export stems for use on other systems. I have a nice vocal booth going through an Avalon valve preamp and the studio is comfortable and air conned. I don’t mind working at other studios if you just need a session musician or engineer. Feel free to call me if you have any questions about anything. .
I’m happy to do any pre-production work, right through to the whole job. I can also refer you to some top mix engineers if you have the budget and demand international quality product..
My preferred workflow for producing solo artists is to do all the song arrangement and production in my studio, including if we need additional instrument sessions. If we have the budget I would then take the final stems of the project to a larger studio with a great mix engineer. If the budget doesn’t allow then I’m happy to do a mix in my studio. The more time spent equals better results, so 4 hours on a mix is way better than a 15min mix at the end of a tracking/editing session. (and so on).. I usually judge what a client wants and work accordingly, either mixing on the fly or being more meticulous…
