The Peenk: singer, guitarist, songwriter, clothing designer, prankster, and caregiver to all that view the world as something more than a race to see who can get the most toys and fun tickets, and actually take the time to stop and watch a groovin sun set.
Conceived in an orange grove in Mount Dora, Fl., inside a v.w. bug. First memory in life is a shroom trip at 3. Accidentally got my hands on the wrong pitcher of tea in the fridge. Told my mom "i feel wormy" she seen my eyes dilated and freaked out, but I thought it was pretty chill. It wasn't too long after that I discovered The Beatles, and I guess my path was pretty much set.I started out on drums at age 7 with the bitchin'lil BeeGee's drum set (wish I still had it). Picked up the guitar at age 15. I put together a band in high school called Aunt Karen, full on psychedelic rock (in time and with member changes we became known as The Learys). At age 18 I spent a year living at Zendik Farm, arts& music commune, in Austin Texas. That's where i learned organic farming, massage, music, art, tie-dye, and the groovy way to milk a goat. In 2001, I put together The Fat Americans, which highlighted more of my southern/swamp rock influence. It was around this time I became interested in clothing design, after discovering the work of Paul Frank and combining that with the knowledge I had gained years earlier from Zendik Farm. About a month after The Fat Americans disbanded, I found this beautiful place full of groovy people right here in Mount Dora called Norma Jeane's Uptown Cafe and Lounge. I had the pleasure of playing there every weekend for about 6 months. I made a lot of friends with a wide variety of interesting folk we refer to as the Norma Jeane's family. Of course, something that cool just couldn't last in the environment that surrounded it, so it closed. Lately, I just play out acoustically with and occasional friend to join me. I'm also working on reforming a new version of Aunt Karen. To be continued...
