Sounds Like
A guy who grew up in North Carolina listening to The Rolling Stones, John Sebastian and John Lee Hooker.
My new song "Poor Ellen Smith" is based on the original tune and words by my Great-Great Uncle, Peter DeGraff. His song became famous and has been covered by The Kingston Trio, Flatt & Scruggs and others. I added new words and a new arrangement.
Peter DeGraff was the last person publicly hanged in Forsyth County, NC. He was convicted of the murder of his betrothed, Ellen Smith. She was found in the area now known as Hanes Park with a letter from DeGraff in her pocket asking her to meet him at the park, and a bullet in her heart.
I tried to capture the confusion, evil and innocence of Peter DeGraff, who in the end requested that his life be a moral lesson to all who hear the story. "Hear my Dying Plea!"
Peace, Randy

Thanks man. I'm really excited cause I'm organizing my first tour around Texas. Maybe next time I tour I'll be able to make it up to North Carolina! You know some good venues to play at?
Dude, the new song is killer. I don't really listen to rap much, but I can definitely appreciate great sound when I hear it. Your right too, I wouldn't have expected a sound like this from you. But that's what makes it so good. People expect one thing, then you throw them a curve ball, knock 'em on their ass. All they can say is "whoa, what the hell was that". I'll have that song in my head for a few days at least. Nice job!
