Randy is a singer/songwriter who has had a guitar in his hand since he was a small boy. He grew up listening to his father, who was also a musician and Kentucky radio performer, sing old style country music. But as young Randy hit adolescence he had an itch for 'rock and roll' and for a brief time followed that path. Because of that detour Randy could be found during his early years as a musician playing in cover bands around the Cleveland area. During this time however, he also discovered his love for lyrical prose.
Throughout the years Randy's musical tastes changed and matured, as did his writing and playing techinque. Bit by bit Randy expanded his talents to experimenting with several other instruments and began to put together a small recording studio in his home. This eventually led to playing out as a solo act introducing his own songs, and quickly becoming recognized as a talented singer/songwriter.
Randy eventually found a home in the Folk, Roots and Country family. Writing music is his passion, and listening to Randy's songs are like rummaging through his closet. His lyrics come from life's challenges, personal experiences, heartbreaks and unexpected joys. Many of his earlier influences included Merle Haggard, Roger Miller, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, John Prine and John Lennon. Later he found inspiration in the music of Van Morrison, Randy Newman, John Hiatt, Elvis Costello, Lyle Lovett, Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller. But without a doubt, Randy's music is all his own.
Randy is a familiar face on the stages around the Cleveland area. Having opened for the major talents of Richie Havens, Garnet Rodgers, Jonathan Edwards, Fairport Convention and Larry Burnett, he is considered a respected musician and songwriter. Randy's songs have been heard on the Charlie Saber program on WRUW 91.1 radio, and seen playing live on Fox 8 television's Christmas Special 'Gifts of the Season'.
Locally some of the talented artists he has worked with include Becky Boyd (back-up vocals on Cards on the Table), Charley Brown (Cross Roads), Bobbie Lee Curtis (Curtis Bros. Band and piano on When a Woman Asks You To Dance), Dan Scutt (Rock Garden and Acoustic Joyride), Pray Warriors, Annie E. DeChant, Rachel Roberts and others.
