Rangers Made an Impact
Ranger played the ZOO late last Wednesday night.. proving what an awesome band they are, despite having only played a handful of shows.Ranger features former Regurgitator drummer Martin Lee, demonstrating he can play quietly as brilliantly as he can play loudly. Former Go-Between bassist Adele Pickvance holds down the lilting bass lines and breaks out the mandolin to great effect. Singer songwriter Cameron McKenzie on guitar and vocals reveals a voice that has an appealingly rich, warm and yearning quality not unlike'My Morning Jacket's Jim james or The Triffids' David McComb or perhaps even Springsteen. They're definitely a band to watch in 2008.+++++++++++++++++++++

EP REVIEW
RANGER
Given the pedigree of its members...this local trio has been earmarked for good things since their formation nearly two years ago. They've more than lived up to that potential with this self titled debut EP, featuring four tracks rooted in countrymusic yet simultaneously bursting with the vibrancy of pop. 'Secret Places' opens proceedings with shimmering slide guitar courtesy of Andy McDonnell, while Pickvance provides down home mandolin on 'Leave a light on'.Powderfingers 'Ian Haug takes slide duties on 'Wise Up' and 'Get Things Started', but at the core of Rangers delightful aural offering is McKenzies delivery- warmly inviting with a slight country brogue. If first impressions count then count Ranger high.
