About me:

Ka mihi nui ki a koe - Warm Greetings to you!

UPDATE - We are now offering podcasts! Click here to check them out. Have a listen and tell us what you think!

TangataWhenua.com is Aotearoa New Zealand's longest running and most extensive web-based Maori News, Information and Events Service. We are Maori-owned and operated and are 100% kaupapa driven. We send out our FREE ePanui (eNewsletter) fortnightly and have a distribution of over 12,000 readers each month. Click here to SUBSCRIBE and view our past issues.

TangataWhenua.com's web-based newsletter, RANGIKAINGA, was first developed in 2002 when we noted the lack of a Mäori-relevant online newsletter that was delivered to people regularly. After just three brief ePanui the community's response was incredible and we set out to create something phenomenal, we now have over 3000 readers around the world (90% Maori). In addition, TangataWhenua.com gets over 12,000 unique visitors and over 180,000 unique impressions each month.

Tangata Whenua means People of the Land and refers to Maori, the indigenous peoples of Aotearoa (the Land of the Long White Cloud - also known as New Zealand). The name RANGIKAINGA literally means 'Celestial Blessing'. The impetus for the development of the ePanui was to use ICT to share relevant news and information which addressed local indigenous issues while at the same time promoted new partnerships and strengthened existing ones. Additionally, as whanau have spread across the globe there is an increased need to provide a network which can assist in connecting them.

The decision was made to actively engage in developing an indigenous community-based business model that would meet the needs of both subscribers and advertisers. Our company was incorporated in 2003. The domain name www.TangataWhenua.com was registered soon after. In 2005, RANGIKAINGA received a commendation from the Human Rights Commission for its positive contribution to race relations. In 2006, RANGIKAINGA received an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) by the National Library of New Zealand confirming it place as a periodic serial. RANGIKAINGA is the only newsletter of its kind in the world. In 2007 TangataWhenua.com received an entry in Wikipedia, the world's largest online encyclopedia, confirming its importance in terms of Maori development in ICT and digital media.

Who I'd like to meet:
Tangata Whenua Maori and indigenous peoples and their supporters throughout the world. Kia ora ra!
