I write different styles of music, but i would call it hybrid reggae.
It's unfair really,I can't give my music a particular style name,
I'll let you decide that one.
Rankin Jr
Hello everyone, and thanks for tuning in to "my space."
For those of you who don't know who I am.Well I have been in many different bands in my time.I started off originally in a punk band called The Dum Dum Boyz (named after a David Bowie or Iggy Pop song) as their drummer.That lasted about 10 months then I joined The Beat (known as The English Beat in the U.S,A. Four years later we split up and me and a next bredda from the band (Dave Wakeling) went on to form General Public,which was also very popular. Some of our hits from the past are songs like;
Mirror in the bathroom,
Tears of a clown,
Ranking fullstop,
Too Nice To Talk To,
Save It For Later,
Hands Off She's Mine,
Tenderness,
So Hot You're Cool,
Never You Done That,
I'll Take You There.
Can't Get Used To Losing You,and Bubbling Hot (with Pato Banton) just to name a few.
I have also Recorded stuff with The Clash.Sting,Jimmy Nail,Pato Banton, big audio dynamite(which i was also a member of for a while) Smashmouth,Pop will eat itself, and many many more.
Neville staple from the specials comes into my career once in a while when we go out as special beat (you can guess what thats all about) and thats usually fun.
I remember many years ago when R.E.M used to open up for us on many a tour. Also U2 as well although thats hard to take in now as they are the biggest rock and roll bands in the world right now.
Other bands i've toured with include Sting,The police,The clash,Talking heads,David Bowie,The pretenders,No doubt,The specials,Selector,Steele Pulse,The untouchables,Fishbone,human league,soft cell,Thomson twins,Queen,ac/dc,kid creole and the coconuts,the toasters,bad brains.There are so many more it would be too boastful to go on,so I should stop right there.
For the last three years or so me and some other original members (blockhead and Everett morton) have been going out as The Beat which has found a new breath of fresh air,and our gigs have done really well everywhere we've played.
The link to the new beat is www.myspace.com/thenewenglishbeat if you want to find out what we are up to.
Anyway I think thats all you want to know about me for now,I will add video and audio as i get used to this space,so please be patient and ting.
I have two solo albums out to date. "Radical Departure" and "Inside My Head."
Feel free to download these tracks.
Peace Love and Unity as always!
