Urban Afro music - The new Soul-Awareness Movement sound with the deepest mystic sounds originating from old Zimbabwe...
"These eternal and unique sounds we have created, are creating and will create are a humble but fulfilling and important life's work and quest on my journey here on this earth, and so being is a very personal affair..Hopefully the gift will be passed on to other blessed generations of my people to continue this mission".. ..and these old melodies will always be consistent with times and more importantly, the evolution of the socially responsible and opinionated awareness music trends around the world.." ranto..08/07
Born in what was then known as Rhodesia, on the 10th of October, in 1975 at the peak of the Zimbabwean liberation guerilla war, Rantoboko, born Sipho Sithole, was raised on a farm plot in the outskirts of Harare. Growing up around general field hand workers and sharing their experiences, whilst at the same time being part of the main household, and thus the employee soon saw a split personality emerging in young Rantoboko. Incidents of trying to find common ground between his family and the workers caused innumerable social conflicts. These circumstances awakened Rantoboko into societys social injustices at an early age. This, however, didnt stop him from building his own drum set from rusty olive oil tin cans where he amazed his family with prodigal understandings of rhythms and melodies.

At a capacity packed Union Buildings in Pretoria, South Africa history was made on the 9th of May 2009. In front of a crowd of 70 000+ people SA superstars Jozi paid tribute to Rantoboko by performing his song '1000 People..' at the inauguration of SA's 4th democratically elected president Jacob Zuma. In attendance at extraordinary event attended by Nelson Mandela himself were 21 heads of states including Pres. Robert Mugabe leader of Rantobokos' homeland Zimbabwe. Also in attendance were controversial leaders such as Libya's Pres. Muammar Gaddafi, recently coup-ousted Madagascan Pres. Mannanar, Swaziland King Mswati and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirayi of Zimbabwe to mention a few.
As if that wasn't a surprise enough Jozi announced that it had a very special surprise guest for the crowd, VIP's and dignitaries in attendance at one of the most controversial rises to power of a President; ANC's Jacob Zuma, widely viewed as the most dramatic election battle since 1994 swearing in of Nelson Mandela as South Africa's 1st democratically elected black president. Jozi called to the stage non other than US R'n'B superstar songstress Puff Johnson who then sang Rantos' "1000 People.." in a stunning collabo performance with Jozi much to the packed crowds frenzied delight including the 40+ million viewers on SA TV plus the millions of other African viewers who watched the event via satellite courtesy of SABC2 and America's Etv channel based in Cape Town.
This indeed is undeniably the highlight of Rantobokos' songwriting career as the event truly was "1000 People in the place..Representing Africans worldwide..!!" some of the lyrics of what is one of the most air-played social conscious songs to hit South African radio to date.
As Juju Records who have worked with Rantoboko once prophesised qoute " what we have here is: the indestructible soun
