Raoul Santos' music is best described as experimental electronic music with influences ranging from intense offbeat to deep-house. However, his live sets are still dominated by house and techno. The unique combination of these elements makes Raoul Santos a versatile, intruiging musician.
Raoul's first love was hip hop like Public Enemy, which is what his dad played at home. In addition to that, he was exposed to experimantal music at a young age. While his classmates listened to Madonna, Raoul was already digging Phillip Glass. Because there was classical music around, it subconciously became an influence on his music as well.
At age 18, he discovered house and techno from a tape a friend gave him. It immediately filled the gap that hip hop left behind - the start of something new and exciting. The drive and the repetitive quality of that music inspired him to make his own music. Through later influences such as Aphex Twin, Kettel, Adam Freeland, Chris Clark, Alex Under, Autechre, Technasia, Carl Graig, Heiko Laux, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Mathew Herbert, Superpitcher and Squarepusher, that music has evolved from house to (cinematic) breakbeats. Raoul's live set is going under the nickname 0573. And he is doing this with his partners in crime Dirk Boersma, Geert van Holland and Jelle Brandsma.
