You are not alone. The Rape Crisis Center is committed to supporting survivors of all forms of sexual violence: sexual assault, sexual abuse and sexual harassment. We are also committed to changing attitudes in our culture, which contribute to violence against women. Since 1992, we have been providing services to survivors, their family members and friends, in addition to the communities of Breathitt, Knott, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Owsley, Perry and Wolfe counties. These services include: Counseling: Trained professionals provide short-term counseling and long-term psychotherapy. It is never too late to heal. The Rape Crisis Center provides free counseling at multiple locations throughout the Kentucky River Region. Legal Advocacy: Personal support is given to survivors throughout the entire legal process. The Rape Crisis Center employs a full time Victim Advocate to explain legal procedures, to assist with obtaining Crime Victim’s Compensation and to connect survivors, family members and friends with community resources. Hospital Advocacy: Personal support is given to survivors at the Hospital throughout the entire medical examination. Trained crisis counselors explain hospital procedures and provide information to survivors, family members and friends. Outreach Programs: Educational workshops are provided for schools and community groups. The programs are designed to meet the needs of each group. In-Service Training: Specialized training is provided for professionals concerning sexual violence and crisis counseling. Continuing Education Units can be obtained with advanced notification. Volunteer Program: Community members over the age of 18 attend a required 40-hour training program, after which they are qualified to volunteer in all of the Rape Crisis programs. Referral Network: Multiple needs of survivors are addressed. Rape Crisis staff will connect survivors with needed services in their community.
