Influences
For the early teen years of Raphael, sped up soul vocals put to breakbeats, trance and house music where the sounds that surrounded him. You see, he lived near an international university that had a dance every Saturday and this is where DJs from Europe, as well as an awe inspiring local DJ who attended the college had taken over. Whether rocking the old tape machine from the 70's in his dads attic and a couple of CD players, or (years later)DJing with two old fashion 78 players Raph managed to bring the funk, throwing his first parties in 94. When he was 14, along with 5,000 ravers, he went to 'Ravestock' (a national rave tour) in a nearby field and got to meet a lot of different DJ's. This is where he fell in love with Drum and Bass then known as Jungle, and so he began producing it. A couple years later he moved to Boulder Colorado and hooked up with some local DJ's. In 1997 he appeared on a compilation known as 'Awake in the Lap of a Dream' through the record label Freakie People, which has been re-released, check out:http://www.freakiepeoplerecords.com/products.html--- He is also currently featured on the Black Bridge label, Brain child of DJ Ivey and 21 Dread, first compilation, 'Natural Selection' out now! --http://www.blackbridge.tv--He played lotsa raves in Colorado as well as having a few DJ residencies, a weekly show on gogaga net radio for a few years and of course he did the usual various parties here,there and everywhere else. Since then Raphaels gigs have ranged everything from farmers markets, festivals and artwalks to local radio, cafe's, bars, weddings, auctions and of course plenty of night clubs. He also started to collect records on a massive scale. His collection now ranges from early Edison cylinders to some of the latest house/trance/breaks/funk/reggaeton/hip hop/pop/r n b and trip hop/drum n bass/ records and cds. Raphael now lives on Maui and plays every Saturday at Spats in Lahaina with DJ Blast.
