DJ Raphael Pathe
Raphael Pathe was born in April 1975, Strasbourg, France. The grandson of Charles Pathe, founder of the Pathe cinema and music international brands, he was encouraged to be creative from a young age and discovered an early passion for the performing arts, especially dance and music. In his own words, what inspired his attraction to electronic music was "because it made me want to dance".
In true 80s child style, he began learning to play the Technics PCM11 and also studied music theory. Then in 1989 during a visit to Oxford, he discovered "UK house" and the clubbing culture, citing bands such as S Express, KLF, K-Klass, The Orb, The Shamen, Bizarre Inc, LA Style and Paolo Mojo, as early influences. Fast-forward to the early 90s, where he began to DJ at clubs such as Le Magasin, Warning, Rocks Academy and Apollo Strasbourg, as well as working as a podium dancer in rave parties and clubs. He also started hosting a house music radio show each Saturday in Strasbourg on RBS Radio. The highlight of this time was mixing next to David Guetta at Le Palace in Paris, 1994.
In 1995 Raphael made a move to London and began working as a club dancer and DJ in some of London's premier clubs of the 90s: Heaven, The Fridge, Bagley's Studios, Trade, Puschka, Venom (Bambina). On his return to Paris in 1996 he worked as a podium dancer and guest DJ at Les Folies Pigalle. It was at this time he started working in studios and produced his first track, "Move Away". 1998 saw a move to Milan to work in the fashion industry, but he still managed to make some time for his main passion, DJ-ing in clubs such as Priv at Club Plastic and at Molto.
In 2001 he returned to Paris to work as a TV presenter on Canalweb. This time also saw Raphael develop his songwriting and music skills and he enrolled at a number of courses in the performing arts schools in Paris. During this time his resume included learning Cubase and Acid software, taking acting lessons at Cot Cours and private singing classes with Marie France Lahore, studying Hip Hop and Modern dance at the Studio Harmonic dance school, appearing in a few short films, as well as adverts, presenting for Channel Pink TV.
In early 2007 he joined pop rock band "OK BABY" as lead singer. This time he spend with the band involved recording a track Inside, with B records and producing and recording tracks "Arabsound", "Do it Like a Show", and "Play With Me" through his own music label 'Million Ideas Records'. In addition to this, he learnt Ableton Live 7 and mixing with MAC + Ableton.
In October 2007 Raphael moved back to London and got his first gig at Ministry of Sound, playing a progressive set. He also began hosting nights at Amika, Maya, Kensington Roof Gardens, Mahiki, 5 Cavendish Square, Cuckoo Club, China White, The Valmont Club and Maddox. In 2008 he created the "Soire Avenue Montaigne", a networking evening for young European socialites living in London.
Raphael Pathe is a very energetic performer and loves nothing more than to dance during sets. He admires the sounds of David Guetta, Ian Carey and Roger Sanchez, and compares his style to that of Hed Kandi and Robbie Riverra. He usually plays 3 types of sets :
- Progressive House + Electro House
- Dancefloor + Vocals
- Electro + Electro Rock
He plans to move to Miami in the near future, while keeping a monthly residency in London, recording more Dancefloor and Vocal tracks and performing.
