The Toronto Rap Project takes an intimate, inside look at the independent urban music scene in Toronto.
With Toronto’s surge in gun crime during 2005, the politicians and media have pointed the finger of blame at rap music and the gangster culture it may inspire. Has the attention on gangster rap overshadowed the positive aspects of a complex hip hop culture? Is it rap or media glamorization of violence – that plays any part in influencing crime on the streets?
Filmmaker Richard Budman addresses these questions as the documentary journeys into diverse neighborhoods from downtown Toronto, the challenged neighborhoods of Jane-Finch, Cataraqui Park in Scarborough, to the much debated 50 Cent concert in Toronto.
The Toronto Rap Project features high profile interviews from politicians, police, and the media. Budman’s documentary tells the story from the point-of-view of the rapper – the ones who truly understand and appreciate the complex urban culture of rap.
The Toronto Rap Project uncovers that maybe the question is not if rap music influences violence, but why has violence become to influence so much rap?

Hey Mr.B. Thanks for sending me info on a reknowned group well deserving of a classic mention. How could you not expext me to know about the WU and groups of its persausion. In my opinion if you are in this generation calling yourself hip hop and not homaging groups such as the WU then to me you should seriously get shot!! lol I'm j/k , but in a nut shell they are part of our generation forefathers of "Hip Hop". It's funny you send me a classic, all I have been doing is listening to old school such as , Bahamedia, Boot Camp Clik, Jeru, Guru...in essence the under estimated artists of our time.
If you want a direction to pin point you may want to jump on getting a SEAN PRICE interview with the release of his new album. Seriously I'll help you book it if you need too.
Thanks for biggin up a sista!!! We need to get together and politic over an "L"...trust that. Keep your positive hissle and I think I have some ish to propose to ya, when your available. Thanks for looking out!!
