RAPTURE: The COMIC by Oeming and Soma
Rapture is a six issue mini series from creators Mike Oeming and Taki Soma from Dark Horse Comics in starting April 2009.
The story is set after a century-long war between the Earth's greatest Champions and Villains nearly decimated the earth . . . then disappeared. Like a Rapture, the Powers were just gone and humanity is left behind to pick up the pieces. Two lovers find themselves separated between New York and Portland and will do anything to find each other again.
Everything else, no matter how crazy or fantastic, is just the backdrop to the love story between Evelyn and Gil—two mortal survivors of the Superhero Apocalypse. Rapture is about how Love and Power are forces that can possess you and make you do things you never thought possible. You would destroy everything to keep it and destroy yourself to get rid of it.
Evelyn finds this out through a strange being called the WORD who makes her a Champion with an angelic spear. Love and destiny collide in a story about the worst breakup ever.... Rapture.
Not every break up is the end of the world, but this one is.

I seem to be reading into the series so far that good and evil are a matter of personal choice in the actions we choose to take at any given moment. It also seems to me that you are trying to say that morality is dependent upon situation. I think its a valid point and one that isn't often addressed. The right thing to do changes from situation to situation. (Pointing out the location of your new Jewish neighbors to the local welcome wagon wouldn't be as friendly a gesture if one were living in the days of Nazi Germany.) Theology needs to be flexible instead of frozen in a morass of two thousand year old primitive morality.
We have grown as a species and if the gods can not accept this fact and evolve in their own perceptions, beliefs and ideologies about us, then why should we continue to passively and blithely obey them without the same questioning we would put to our own brothers and sisters about their motives and purposes?
I like the questions the book raises and I'm interested to see where the book winds up. Well done.

I wasn't sure how you were going to handle the epic battle of the super beings without taking away from the intimacy of the romance story, but you pulled it off nicely. The big splash page on two and three was the perfect spot for the background exposition. It got the biggest chuck of non-character developement out of the way and set the melieu for me right away.
Baby eating cannibals? Okay, I loved it. Heads and hands holding food? Man, these aren't my father's cannibals. They're fast, organized and ruthless, I like em'. (Especially contrasted against the mindless automaton of a zombie Evelyn's mother appears to be.)
My only concern? I sure hope Gil doesn't turn out to be the cliched shallow Hal, turning to the nearest piece of fluff once the love of his live is away. All of us men are not nearly so shallow...
I'm ready for book two. Nice story. The art is a style I'm still getting used to, but it fits the story pretty darn well. All and all I give the opening book an eight. (That's out of ten stars.)

I penned a quick review of Rapture on my blog.
The art reminds me of, Criminal. (One of my favorite books.) The colors are tastefully garish and perfect for the post apocalyptic tale you're telling.
I'm looking forward to the read.
