About me: Rare as a Green Dog is an open network and platform to showcase unique and authentic artists whose output is experimental yet still enjoyable. Founder caro snatch was once referred to as "rarer than a green dog" (a Spanish phrase). She thought 'what a nice concept' and so a series of events took place while in Berlin, bringing together UK and Berlin artists. Seminal Berlin venues like the NBI and Ausland played host to these evenings who have featured a number of random artists from equally diverging backgrounds.
This not so little hobo re-located to UK early 2007, where RaGD has been warmly welcomed with events taking place in Newcastle, Manchester's futuresonic festival (one of 4 winners of their evnts competition), Manchester's Green Room (with Arts Council support)pushing the (decent) exposure of electronic women with a minimum 50% female line-up at every event. Even more audacious is the oestrogen comrade of the dawg, the Rare Green Bitch showcases with a Special International Women's Week 2008 event at Contact Theatre supported by a grant from the Manchester City Council.
More irregular and recurring events planned already in partnership with other Manchester agitators. Member of a number of international networks, RaGD will be amassing some of these unique partisans on a compilation at some stage. So, enjoy the rarities on offer and get in touch if u are an artist and u think u qualify, we wanna hear/see u as we aim to expand and act as outlet, support and development for those that dare to be rare...

Svarte Greiner (Deaf Center/Miasmah/Type) explores deep into a dark, mysterious and disturbing universe. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Earth, Volcano the Bear, David Darling & Deathprod, the music is draped in Lynchian mysticism and horror film cinematics. "The music of Svarte Greiner is practically perfect. It's like that sound in our heads we've been imagining for ages but had never actually heard." - Type Records.
The Sight Below (Rafael Anton Irisarri/Miasmah/Immune) draws as much on modern genre progenitors like Brian Eno, Robin Guthrie and My Bloody Valentine as it does from the more historic traditions in neo-classicism from Erik Satie and Olivier Messiaen. His album Glider has appeared on Thom Yorke's radar in making the Radiohead's lynchpin's top ten playlist.
His debut album Navigare soon to feature on the Miasmah label, Simon Scott (former Slowdive) is set to be a household name in conceptual music. Simon is the former Slowdive drummer, co-producer of Televise, producer of Seavault, and owner of KESH Recordings label.

His ultra-prolific back catalogue showcases his ability to perfect classical ambience, organic drone soundscapes, electronic minimalism and cathartic noise. He is hailed as one of the most interesting new experimental musicians by the Wire magazine.
Xela is the shady, underworld atmospheres and improv horrors of John Twells, owner of Type Records. "Xela has always been able to pre-empt the shifting tides of electronic music and deliver a statement that's definitively of its time” (Boomkat).

Grace is like a large Jamaican woman with a laugh like thunder, She lives in a two-storey apartment on the quiet side of town, where you visit her at twilight. No sound can be heard as you approach but the distant sound of a dog barking. As you climb the steel steps and walk down the hallway, the smell of freshly baked bread comes to greet you, seeping out from under her door.
It redeems what came before.
It draws you closer. It comforts you.
You never get to knock the door because she always gets to it first, So excited to see you again, She throws her arms around you and welcomes you in before you can say a word.
You always feel at home here. Wanted like nowhere else.
Her face beams and radiates love. She reaches down and picks up your baggage. She places it on the large wooden table in the kitchen, And slowly she works her way through it.
You watch in silence. When she gets to the bottom a tear falls from your cheek, Which she catches with her handkerchief. She places this in with the contents and closes the case once more.
She smiles tenderly as she picks it up, And carries it upstairs. You wonder what it's like up there.
She returns empty handed, And you raise your fist to strike her, But she grabs hold of your arm and pulls you in. She embraces you and you sob like a child once more.
She whispers secrets in your ear. She walks by your side and guides you.
I first met Grace when I was a young man, She introduced herself to me with a hug, And forgave me immediately.
Forbidden Characters is back with more musical rarities from the Leeds underbelly. On this autumnal yet frisky line-up we have: Black Diamond Bay (formerly Tarentum) the seven piece will be doing a live set of their unique folksy electronica. Micoland from the Gonzo crew is also doing a live set, expect rephlex-esque broody dubstep. On the good ‘old dex of steel we welcome back Annie Erez for a techno tour-de-force and our special guest from Sweden Anaya - of Svaj Club fame and one of the Sister Sthlm founders - expect techno, techno, techno. Paizan will do residential duties around a.. yes you’ve guessed it techno theme with some dubstep thrown in for good measure. Digital Donut will blast your eyeballs with stunning visuals, as befits the visual mistress in residence. Sound’s provided by Kaos and decor by Peshrooms Décor. All proceeds are going towards Cloth Cat to ensure it keeps providing quality free music courses for the LS6 community.
