Rascal

Doug Rowe a.k.a. Rascal began his illustrious career spinning hard technotrance at Compulsion at Manchester's famous Bowlers venue in March '99. Here he lined up alongside Scott Brown, Smurf, Ribbs and Sharkey in the biggest monthly hardcore event in the UK.. Rascal is a pioneer of Manchester's underground dance scene creating the clubnight 'Species'. Species was one of the first club nights in England to push the Dutch and Italian hardcore sound. Rascal and the team at Species were responsible for enticing many of the biggest Dutch / Italian djs to England to play for the first time, notably Neophyte, Don Diablo, The Destroyer, Headbanger, Randy and Promo. The success of Species secured Rascal future bookings and residencys at events such as Kiddstock, Goodgreef, Storm, Polysexual, Vibealite, North and Audioporn.

Through his guest DJ spots and his own promotion work including the current KNOW:FEAR project Rascal has introduced thousands of music lovers to the sound of Hardstyle. One of his many personal highlights so far includes spinning Hardstyle in the main room at Storm.

Rascal influences come from the early dutch and italian Hardcore sounds, hardcore techno and early hard acid trance (Nostrum and time unlimited etc). DJ's that have shaped and represented Rascal's sound include Lenny Dee, Producer, Mark EG, MZone, Scott Brown, Neophyte, Don Diablo ( early days), Promo, Mark Arcardipane and The Destroyer. Other influences include Philippe Rochard, Zany, Warmduscher, Deepack and The Prophet.

Away from his promoting, DJ'ing and production work, Rascal writes for the UK based music magazine 'CORE' doing the hardstyle features, event & track reviews. The magazine is mainly aimed at the hardcore crowd but covers many other underground scenes and genres. More big names in the hard dance scene have now joined the magazine including Scott Brown, Sharkey, Frantic resident Cally Gage, Storm resident Dj Daley and Wales' finest hard dance export Cally and Juice. Its currently distributed to every underground independant record shop and online record shop in the UK and is also handed out at the big main events. Currently Rascal is resident at 'Advokate' which is a new UK hardstyle night where he will play alongside Technoboy and Headhunterz in November 08. He is also doing a podcast for FreshFM and is trying to break into the dutch Hardstyle scene.

Rascal has come a long way since 1999 and in the coming years he's going to go even further.
