Duaine Bowen, who goes by the stage name of Ras Ghandi, was born on September 21, 1977 in the community of Gregory Park St. Catherine, Jamaica. A revolutionary singer and songwriter, as well as deejay, Ras Ghandi has been writing and performing since the age of twelve and cut his first recording at the age of sixteen.
Seen as a positive individual and a role model to many, Ras Ghandi continues on his journey to inspire and uplift youths. This journey has taken him not only through Jamaica, but also across the world stage. His music and lyrics are messages of hope and creation of a better life. His soothing and lively lyrics express faith in the human spirit and provide a contrast to the glorification of violence and the degredation of women and men expressed in much of the music today.
As a surivor of the streets of Jamaica, Ras Ghandi is uniquely positioned to be a representative of the country and its people. A true ital warrior, Ras Ghandi's music is a reflection of his views of Jamaica's history, culture and society.
A focused artist and entrepreneur along with M.C Nuffy, his close friend through House A Vibes Productions, Ras Ghandi is developing his own talents as well as other young artists with mutual goals of a positive lifestyle for themselves.
This artist is undoubtedly on the path to success. The first single for SMOKEYROOM productions, "Bloodshed", reached number nine on the charts in Jamaica and the single "Sufferation" has been in steady rotation and is receiving much airplay in the Caribbean and Canada. In August 2006, Ras Ghandi went on a promotional tour of Western Canada where he performed in Edmonton and took part in the Calgary International Reggae Festival. He also spent time at the SMOKEYROOM productions recording studio where he recorded dubs for various sound systems and worked on several new songs for SMOKEYROOM productions.
Upon his return to Jamaica last summer, Ras Ghandi performed at Beenie Man's "Summer Sizzle" stage show and put on an exceptionaly high energy performance which had the crowd waving flags and banners throughout.
"We no waan no more bloodshed, we no waan no more yutes dead, de likkle Jamaica whe we love, bring it back to what it was. Too much gangstas and thugs, AK's and slugs...Life is so hard..."
