..Michael Enkrumah Henry also known as Ras Michael Jr, was born on September 5, 1960. He grew up in a Rastafarian household with parents, Michael George Henry (of International Reggae group Ras Michael and the Sons of Negus) and Lucille Dawes in down town, Church Street, Kingston. Growing up in the Rastafarian tradition of playing the drums, he was influenced by many legendary reggae artists as well as producers. These included Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Jimmy Cliff and the great Mortimo Planno. His main influence came from his father Ras Michael, a specialist in Niyabinghi chanting and song writing... ..As an original member of the Sons of Negus, he toured the U S with Ras Michael and the Sons of Negus. At an early stage in his musical career, Ras Michael Jr broke away from the group. He dedicated himself to playing the guitar after seeing Jimmi Hendrix perform, thus developing his own flavor. With his love for the music, he formed a band which played many shows across the United States. At the Constitution Hall they opened for Third World, Jimmy Cliff and Peter Tosh. He has performed with Rico Casey from The Cars, the Bad Brains, Talking Heads, Jefferson Starship, Big Brothers and Company, Scream, Mick Jagger and Steve Ferone from the Average White Band. His last performance in the US was in California, at the Universal Theater in Tribute to Peter Tosh. At this point, Ras Michael Jr had exiled himself from the music world, choosing to return to his roots . His last major performance was at Bob Marley’s 53rd birthday celebration.
