Rastavibe. It started on April 2002 when a group of friends held their first party at the campus of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The name expressed their feelings towards reggae music and so that party was the first one presented by Rastavibe. People crowded the campus to listen to the groovy sounds of reggae music and get a glimpse of Jamaica. And the vibe was massive. And since then Rastavibe has presented a lot of artists on its posters.
Organizing parties and concerts with Greek reggae djs and some local bands during 2002 - 2003 showed that Greek people were starving for reggae music. During the past twenty years a few international reggae bands had visited Greece. This was about to change. In July 2003 the first Rastavibe Festival was held in Asprovalta, a seaside village 100km away from Thessaloniki. More than 1500 people attended the first reggae festival ever held in Greece. Artists such as Max Romeo, Misty in Roots, Mad Professor, Dennis Alcapone, Trilla Jena and United Sounds visited the stage of the festival and passed their vibe to the crowd, while the few Greek reggae bands had their time as well. Three days of music in a camping site full of trees, right by the sea, brought Jamaica a little closer to Greece. More parties and concerts with Greek bands followed the festival. It seemed as Greece was waking up in a reggae riddim.
The second Rastavibe Festival was held in July of 2004 and it hosted Culture, Asian Dub Foundation, Panafricanist, Aisha, Ras Styler, King Shiloh, Bulletproof Sounds and more Greek bands and djs. This time it was over 3000 people dancing at two stages for three days. And the vibe grew more and Rastavibe continued with more concerts and international acts. From 2004 until now, Rastavibe invited in Greece a majority of the best reggae bands and artists such as Lee Perry, the Wailers (with Gary Pine as lead singer the first time and Junior Marvin the second), Alpha Blondy, U-roy, Junior Murvin, Asian Dub Foundation Soundsystem, Trojan Soundsystem, , Iration Steppas, Zion Train, One Mission and more. Concerts have been held in both Athens and Thessaloniki, while in some cases we promoted reggae artists in collaboration with other promoters in places such as Samothraki, Chalkidiki, Crete, etc.
Meanwhile, thanks to the vibe of the first festival, allover Greece new bands and djs appeared on the scene. In the year 2007 Greece can be proud for its reggae and dub productions, adding its bit to the international scene with bands such as One Drop, Soulfire, Atiko Minus, Locomondo, Direct Connection, Professor Skank, Les Skartoi, Radical G, KakoSynapantima, Kilimanjaro. With great happiness we realize our contribution to this and we believe that a part of the dream that group of friends had in 2002 is now coming to life. We keep planning more concerts and parties and of course the comeback of the Rastavibe Festival with more music, more acts, more vibe. Rastavibe.
