A talented composer, Mark learned piano from Stravinsky’s son, played with Sara Vaughn and conducted the LA Philharmonic Strings and the Houston Symphony in his own compositions. He learned film scoring from Albert Harris (favorite modern composer of Andres Segovia and Laurindo Almeida.)
A few years later he worked with Moacir Santos, coming to national attention shortly thereafter as El Lejano with his song ‘Dreamin’ produced by Rick Jarrard (Jose Feliciano-Light My Fire, Harry Nilsson-Everybody’s Talkin’) Percussion by Paulinho Da Costa.
With the release of his CD, "The Ratho Shenzi Musical Companion," Mark become the first novelist to compose music specifically to accompany the reading of his fantasy/adventure trilogy, "The Mysterious Journey of Ratho Shenzi."
Mark's latest work: the BRASIL MPB PROJECT was inspired by the music of Brazilian singer/guitarist Celso Fonseca.
