Rattail Butler began with an e-mail response to a Craigslist post from drummer Will McCosker to lead guitarist Steve Flusberg in March of 2007. Based off what Steve, lead vocalist Jake Brill and bassist Jonathan Kirchner were looking for, Will seemed like a perfect fit.
Practices began at the McCosker Ranch in rural Canyon, CA, where there was an immediate connection between the 4 members of the band. The ranch has become a frequent retreat, as well as the venue for multiple musical events of varying sizes.
The band’s music stems from the members' diverse musical backgrounds and personal tastes. With a strong rap/hip hop influence coming from Brill, Flusberg's enjoyment of long, wild instrumental jams, Kirchner's passion for gritty soul and funk, and McCosker's unwavering commitment to looking good and playing drums, the four members of Rattail Butler have crafted a sound all their own. In addition to covering material from a wide range of styles and eras, all four members have contributed heavily to the band’s growing catalog of original songs.
The band is currently in the early stages of recording their debut album and preparing for upcoming shows throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. They are also in the process of creating their official website, rattailbutler.com.
