Rattlesnake Choir was hatched in 2006 when Toronto music veterans John Borra (vox, harmonica, guitar), Sam Ferrara (kitchen sink percussion) and Tony Benattar (Doghouse bass, Dobro) saw a chance to present John’s songs in a rootsy driving combo using only acoustic instruments. With the addition of Treasa Lavasseur (vox, piano and accordion) they were off and running with a weekly Wednesday Night gig at the Paddock.
Their debut album “Live Music” was recorded live off the floor in two sessions in spring/summer 2007. In between those sessions Treasa left to tour with her band and Miranda Mulholland (vox, fiddle & violin) jumped right in without missing a beat.
The Choir has come full circle now, having put the piano and accordian back in courtesy of Michael Boguski. These days you can catch the Rattlesnake Choir at Toronto’s most roots rockin’ bar, The Dakota Tavern every Monday night from 10:30 until closing.
