Sounds Like
Four guys playing like their lives depend on it (which it does, doesn't it?)
Rat Patrol (Rattus patrolicus) is a plague you just can’t seem to get rid of. Since 1988 this species kicks ass and puts out loud & fast hardcore punk, and just when you thought ‘it’s done, they’re dead’, oh no, there’s a new album!!! How these crazy fucks manage to maintain the same line-up for 20 years is still a miracle, but, yes, Pjotr, Roelsel, Jansel & Henry Rat are still on it, and release their 4th studio album, the roaring “Ibiza Kepone”, in September 2008… And, the older they get, the rougher the sound. This is also due to the great recording engineer Tsar Fat Peter Sharky “El Gordo” Haaima the Great and masterer Hans Pieters (Excess Rotterdam).
Rat Patrol still plays pure hardcore (no metal). Lyrics are important, but more to give rise to discussion or thinking, than to show a pointed finger. Currently, they also love to piss themselves off in their lyrics…. It’s what getting older does to them I guess…
Their previous releases are 'Rat Patrol' (1989), 'Not a youth cult' (1992) (both recorded by Dolf at Joke's Koeienverhuurbedrijf, Amsterdam), and "Painkiller" (1997) (recorded by menno Bakker at Bunt's, Utrecht). Everything is released on the bands own label 'Highly Obscure Records'. DIY it is!
Rat Patrol was named after a song by Naked Raygun. They are influenced by really all sorts of things, from 77 punk to the loudest hate core. Jansel and Roelsel played with Deluxe Green (punk rock 1978 - 1989); Henry played drums with De Verkouden Olifant (1982, punk), M.B.P. (hardcore, 1985 - 1988) and Kotton Krown (guitar pop, 1989 - 1992), and was singer for Chronicore (punk, 1991-1993) and Larry Speaks (hardcore, 1994-95). He also played drums for Over The Moon (guitar pop), from 1996 thru 1998.
Rat Patrol shared the stage with Gorilla Biscuits, Spermbirds, Seein’ Red, Youth of Today, Catweazle, Negazione, Christ on Parade, Strychnine, Broken Bones, The Bips, Bambix, UK Subs, Slapshot, Strychnine, Milkman, AntiDote, Upset Noise, and many more, and of course with the Gate Crashers….
