Sounds Like
A) [the predictable response]: Queen, Pink Floyd, GNR, Transatlantic, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, King's X, Soul Asylum, Spock's Beard, a pinch of Beatles, music that hasn't been written yet, and a vicious blender
and/or
B) [the narcissistic, at-the-risk-of-sounding-egotistical response]: 300 years of music history converging into a single artist with the intent to FINALLY recapture forward momentum of MUSIC, while driving a stake through the heart of what is not
8-year-old Doug Rausch was faithful to the piano. One day as he was leaving for a lesson, his father slipped him a white unmarked envelope to hand the teacher. After arriving at her studio and following Dad’s instructions, he eagerly climbed onto the bench and tossed his book open, ready to play. The practice week had been less than perfect, but he didn’t feel that should hold him back in any way. Today he would learn the Key of G!
"It says you’re quitting,” she blurted out…
RAUSCH did not quit; he has been studying, writing, practicing, performing, and otherwise living music relentlessly ever since the day his parents all but wrote him off. This obsession recently landed him a degree from the prestigious Ithaca College School of Music in New York, where he won recognition as concerto competition finalist with Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. A diverse following began to build as his tireless vision of resuscitating rock and roll collided headfirst with his obligations to “serious music.” For the encore of an ambitious recital on the eve of his 21st birthday, his 13-piece band joined him in tribute to Guns N Roses. November Rain took a classical music school to tears.
Following this artistic triumph, RAUSCH took on the real world. He played countless gigs and submerged himself into all things music. Fresh off the heels of an internship with Sony Music Studios, he received the title of “Manager of the Year” at age 25 (the youngest to ever achieve this honor), as top producer at a highly respected Steinway & Sons piano retailer. From academia to corporate America, he learned much about the inner-workings of the music industry. In the end, all this first-hand experience only reinforced the urgency in chasing a life-long vision.
RAUSCH caught his first compositional accolades when Jordan Rudess, keyboard wizard of Dream Theater, contacted him to perform in a special master-class called KEYFEST; the invitation stemmed from a college demo that found its way into Jordan’s hands. RAUSCH unveiled his 11-minute epic FLOW - a work that beautifully unites all of the seemingly contradictory elements of his campaign - only to reveal that he was saving that for "Album 2." Meanwhile, he was hard at work in an attempt to craft the proper debut. All throughout, RAUSCH was fueled by a growing ill-content with the fact that this “genre” (if playing music itself is now relegated to a genre, all-too-conveniently pigeonholed as “prog rock”) has been demoted to mere niche status ever since the heydays of Queen and Pink Floyd. RAUSCH may be taking a risk, but he never loses sight of the song (after all, Beethoven himself was the rock star of his day…).
His efforts attracted a kindred musical spirit in guitarist Gary Wehrkamp, known best for his seemingly superhuman achievements in the progressive rock juggernaut, Shadow Gallery. As Wehrkamp’s invaluable musicianship helped put a cohesive stamp on the tracks, and Spock's Beard/Transatlantic mix-extraordinaire Rich Mouser agreed to help deliver the baby, RAUSCH now had all the tools he needed to complete THE ALBUM before encountering record-setting delays a la Chinese Democracy... and at last, as of late 2009, the long-awaited debut ALBUM of RAUSCH is RELEASED!
also, is bipolar a sort of metaphor on your struggle to eradicate shitty music? I got that from the song a while back, and never got to ask, so I can't give the reasons why. great song by any means though
You followed me on twitter, that's how YOU found ME! ;) I think there are several bands and people saving music history @ the moment, but you do a good job.
And of course I browsed your page and saw the album is out....when will it be available in "normal" stores in Germany? I hate music download with compressed music and ordering things at amazon or any kind of these stores
Hi Doug, Thanks for the reminded. I just haven't gotten around to purchasing either the CD or a song yet. A little bit of life going on around me with the passing of my father this past week after a brief illness. I really do enjoy the song Bipolar and may just get that song. Enjoy the holidays, my friend. Bill J.
Oh man! Has it been that long? I'm so sorry. I've been crazy with work and the holidays (which just cause me more stress than enjoyment). I, too, am snowed in. And, can you believe, my snow shovel is in storage?!?! It doesn't snow much here, or at least not enough to accumulate...I say that with about 20" of snow out my window. True story, literally 3 days ago I was talking weather with a friend off mine in MA, he was saying our weather was similar, the only difference I had was that I don't really get snow...And now look!
But anyway, how are things with you? The album is doing well? I have not gotten a copy yet, but I will...I am quite forgetful and I don't always come 1st (being that I have a 4 Year old). I'll be around all day, or digging my car out with a spoon!
Hey, Thanxx for being a friend. Check out the new songs by "On the Rise" on my player. Just released in Europe.....U.S release the 12th of January 2010. Wish you a great day. Be safe and take care:) Best regards....Erik Engebretsen.
