The
Basic Equations:
Robbie Oswin = RAW B + Oswin = RAW Boswin
But, RAW Boswin > Rob Oswin
Therefore...
RAW Boswin = (RAW B + Help from Friends + rejection letters + Kokanee)Gonnabees
(Dedication+Faith+Persistence+Patience+Heart+Drive)Desire
Rob Oswin makes RAW Boswin music. RAW Boswin is the
culmination of over 25 years of blood sweat, tears and relentless pursuit of music by this
born and raised Edmontonian Singer/songwriter. Writing, recording and performing over
those 25 years, RAW B creates a truly worthwhile listening experience. With influences
ranging from Boston to Chicago, Red Rider thru Pink Floyd and Billy Joel to Elton John,
Rob pays very close attention to the songs he writes. Raw B's attention to detail in the
studio and his "show-don't-tell" approach to songwriting are fortified by his
deep and personal lyrical content.
RAW Boswin's music appeals to all ages and demographics. As the list of
influences would imply, the songs are melodic and meaningful, and anything goes. Musical
tone and mood are masterfully used to paste each track with an attitude or undercurrent
for the lyrics and melody to bounce off. The songs are strong and personal. RAW B has
learned to hold nothing back over the years of performing at local Calgary Pubs and Coffee
Houses.
"I do love a captive audience.. My favorite of all places to
perform are around campfires and Christmas trees with family and friends. Other guys chop
wood and fetch water, but my job has always been to play that guitar."
As for his live performances, Raw B has been playing in bands since the
tender age of 14. Most notably, Raw cut his teeth as a bass player/vocalist in the
original Rock band Smokin Joes, who also featured Ian MacDonald. The Smokin' Joes released
and promoted their self-titled (and only) CD as a popular opening act for such names as
The Tubes, The Commitments, Colin James, SteppenWolf, Trooper, Kenny Shields, Doug and the
Slugs, and Lou Diamond Phillips, just to name a few. When asked about RAW Boswin's solo
live performance, Cliff at Jack Daw's said:
"I don't pull much weight around here, but if it was up to me, I'd
hire you again!"(Cliff at Jack Daw's)
"I don't know why I don't hire you more often, Your songs are
great and you deliver them so well" Tom Wilson (Singer/songwriter)
Raw Boswin left the Smokin" Joes, and went on to record his debut
solo CD, The Hard Way, with Danny Patton and the line-up listed above. The disc has
achieved moderate success, which has spurred RAW B into recording a second disc.
Long-story short, from the proceeds of a long and painful Federal Income Tax Audit, Raw
Boswin has purchased a Protools Recording Studio and is now in the process of
self-producing his second CD. Look forward to a bouquet of finely crafted 3 to 4 minute
songs that the radio is sure to enjoy.
Current Activities and Plans: As mentioned above, RAW Boswin is in the
midst of making his second CD. Using top-notch local Calgary-based talent, the recording
is already coming together quite nicely. While available for hire as a single, RAW B is
also putting together a line-up for larger shows. This will not be another Calgary Folk
band. Its time for a change in the local flavor of the month. Look for RAW Boswin and the
Gonnabees at a venue near you soon. Other activities include seeking song placements in TV
and motion picture soundtracks and commercial Jingles.
Checked-out your cover song last night Rob, well done. I can't say I heard you do many covers but you did look very comfortable there in your den, nice.

Hey Raw: Thanks for the birthday wishes. Had a fab 40th. Spent the afternoon with my family at the ship listening to Dave McCann and the 10 toed frogs, then drove up to Camrose with my dad and had a fantastic gig. A great way to bring in a new decade. Hope you are well. Cheers!

I just posted 2 new songs. I would really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to drop by to check them out.
"The Resolution movie credits" is a symphonic/choirs type piece I did for the closing credits of a movie. It is a big majestic cue with a full (sampled) symphony and choir.
"Until the Night is Gone," is an uptempo pop tune which I had a lot of fun doing. This is my debut as a lead vocalist. I have always been very insecure about my vocal abilities so this is a kind of coming out for me.
just dropping by to let you know that my whole album is up for streaming on my page. I hope you have a minute to have a listen and enjoy some of my music.
Take care
Ray
