Dopo una lunga fase eliminatoria su myspace e due accese semifinali, l’Amsterdam Metal Contest approda alla sua serata finale, che si rivelerà ricca d’emozioni. Come già era successo nella prima semifinale, io e il prode Marcozzo, oltre che fare parte della giuria, daremo una mano anche per quanto riguarda la presentazione del Contest. La prima band a salire sul palco sono i Travma, vecchia conoscenza dei guerrieri, ma che io vedo per la prima volta in sede live; quello che offrirà il trio di Manfredonia sarà ciò che già immaginavo, ovvero thrash death ruvido e massiccio, che non guarda in faccia nessuno e quindi riff spaccaossa, assoli in corsa e una base ritmica di basso e batteria sempre puntualmente incalzante e piena. La presenza sul palco è poi ottima e sia Ulderico che Sbadacchio riescono sempre a coinvolgere il pubblico presente in sala. Infine ho molto apprezzato la scelta delle cover, tra le quali la stupenda Blinded by fear degli At the Gates ed il pezzo finale, una Arise rivista e corretta in chiave più scarna e se possibile ancora più devastante. Dopo i Travma tocca ai Rayon salire sul palco. Si cambia quindi genere virando dal metal all’Hard rock. La proposta del combo leccese è, infatti, un mix tra il grande glam dei Motley Crue e dei Twisted Sister ed un corposo hard rock targato AC/DC. Anche in questo caso grande presenza sul palco che fa un tutt’uno con la furia rock’n’roll dei nostri, chitarre graffianti, ritornelli molto catchy, tra i quali per esempio quello di Born to be ready, uno dei pezzi più riusciti, e dei bei cori che rimangono da subito ben impressi in testa, con delle spolverate heavy che rendono ancora più esplosivo il mix! Anche i Rayon chiudono quindi tra gli applausi, mettendo a dura prova noi poveri giurati, che saremmo chiamati a giudicare queste due esibizioni. La serata non è però ancora finita: deve ancora, infatti, salire sul palco dell’Amsterdam Cafè la Guest della serata, i Godyva. Premetto che io non sono un grande patito del genere proposto dai nostri, in altre parole gothic metal, o meglio, come preferiscono definirsi loro, intimate gothic metal, ma non essendone completamente a digiuno, posso fare un piccolo raffronto con altre band che mi è capitato di sentire sia a livello underground che a livelli un po’ più alti, e devo dire che i Godyva hanno tutte le carte in regola per sfondare: riff d’impatto, nelle parti più thrash, ben mescolati con le parti più melodiche e d’atmosfera, bei campionamenti e grandi tappeti di tastiera e ovviamente la voce di Lady Godyva, molto versatile e sempre all’altezza. Ma soprattutto, credo che la differenza la facciano gli arrangiamenti, originali al punto giusto, per staccarsi da certi temi forse un po’ abusati nel genere, punto forte che li mette un pelino sopra rispetto ad altri gruppi e ciò è dimostrato sia dalla popolarità che già riscuotono, sia da alcune collaborazioni importanti, come per esempio quella di Lady Godyva in Draculea, penultima fatica dei Necrodeath. Finita l’esibizione dei Godyva, arriva il momento di decretare il vincitore dell’Amsterdam Metal Contest. La giuria di qualità da un leggero vantaggio ai Travma, ma la giuria popolare ribalta il risultato ed i Rayon riescono così a strappare per pochi punti la vittoria (83 a 75). Sfida molto equilibrata che viene quindi vinta al fotofinish dai Rayon, che avremmo il piacere di intervistare durante la puntata del 15 maggio dei Guerrieri del Metallo. Ringrazio infine Antonio “Vygrid”, i Travma, i Rayon ed i Godyva, gli amici del Prospect Chapter Gremium MC, l’Amsterdam Cafè ed il suo staff e la Puglia tutta per l’ospitalità che hanno dato a me e Marco e vi aspetto presto per poter sentire dai diretti interessati le loro emozioni e i loro commenti su questa intensa finale!!!

I Rayon nacquero a Lecce nel Febbraio del 2006 da un’idea di Jonathan Trigger. Jonathan che è un amante dell’Hard Rock Americano degli anni ‘80 e della NWOBHM, decise di creare una band che esprimesse l’unione dei due sound. Jonathan formò la prima line-up dei Rayon con G.Mad e Ryan Ridit. Dopo qualche mese si unì Soul Chris al basso e G.Mad decise di cantare e suonare la chitarra allo stesso tempo. Con la prima line-up "Jonathan Trigger: Batteria - G.Mad: Voce & Chitarra - Ryan Ridit: Chitarra - Soul Chris: Basso" la band cominciò a lavorare al nuovo materiale, e nell’Ottobre del 2006 registrò il primo demo tape "Runnin’ From Elm St." al Digital Media Sound Studio (LE) G.Mad lasciò la band nel Novembre del 2006 e il gruppo visse un periodo di declino alla ricerca di un nuovo cantante e di un nuovo chitarrista. Ma in questo periodo la band si convinse che Ryan Ridit potesse essere il nuovo frontman e lui accettò il nuovo ruolo con molto impegno. Nel Maggio del 2007 la band trovò il nuovo chitarrista Gianni, dagli Headless, e finalmente riprese a lavorare. Con la nuova line-up "Jonathan Trigger: Batteria - Ryan Ridit: Voce & Chitarra - Gianni: Chitarra - Soul Chris: Basso" il sound dei Rayon divenne più duro, ma Gianni decise di lasciare la band nell’Ottobre del 2007. Jonathan, Ryan e Chris presero immediatamente una decisione, quella di dare una svolta decisiva alla band “Usare Tre Chitarre” Per questo motivo la band trovò due nuovi chitarristi alla fine del 2007, i due gemelli Gabrielle & Mark, dai Darkspell. Il 2008 per i Rayon fu un anno davvero esaltante, la nuova band "Jonathan Trigger: Batteria - Ryan Ridit: Voce & Chitarra - Gabrielle: Chitarra - Mark: Chitarra - Soul Chris: Basso" nella prima parte dell’anno intraprese un’intensa attività live, culminata con la registrazione nello Giugno 2008 del nuovo demo tape “Born To Be Ready” composto da 5 tracce di puro Hard Rock Ottantiano, registrato al “The Bunker Studio” di Maurizio Sacquegno a Melendugno (LE) “Born To Be Ready” nei mesi successivi ebbe un buon riscontro da parte della critica, con molte recensioni positive delle più importanti Webzine Italiane, mentre tutti i pezzi venivano trasmessi su svariate Radio Italiane, Statunitensi, Australiane e Spagnole. Nel Febbraio del 2009 i gemelli lasciarono la band, Gabrielle per unirsi agli Stonecutters, mentre Mark per problemi personali. Il chitarrista Gold Member, ex SlowDeath, prese subito il posto vacante lasciato dai gemelli, prendendosi la grossa responsabilità di due chitarre. La nuova formazione "Jonathan Trigger: Batteria - Ryan Ridit: Voce & Chitarra – Gold Member: Chitarra - Soul Chris: Basso" si prepara ad infiammare i palchi dei Festival e dei locali di questo “Born To Be Ready Tour ‘09”
BAND HISTORY
Rayon was formed by Jonathan Trigger in the February of 2006. Jonathan Trigger decided to realize a serious project after some experience of band, as Night Flowers. He, that is a lover of the American Hard Rock ’80 and of the NWOBHM, decided to create a band that expressed the union of the two sound. Trigger created the first line-up of Rayon with G.Mad and Ryan Ridit, the old guitarists of Night Flowers. Looking for a bassist and a singer, the fist Rayon began to compose the first songs, as "Runnin’ From Elm St." and "Love Won’t Break Tonight". Rayon founded the bassist Soul Chris after a long period, and G.Mad decided to sing in the band at the same time. With the new definitive line-up "Jonathan Trigger: Drums - G.Mad: Vocals & Guitar - Ryan Ridit: Guitar - Soul Chris: Bass" the band began to work on new songs and in the October of 2006 the band recorded the first demo tape "Runnin’ From Elm St." at Digital Media Sound Studio. The sound of demo tape remembered the sound of the first album of the Hard Rock ’80. G.Mad left the band in the November of 2006 and the band lived a period of decline for the search of a new singer and a new guitarist. The band, in this period, convinsed itself that Ryan Ridit could be the new singer, the new frontman, and he accepted the new role. In the May of 2007 the band founded the new guitarist Gianni, from Headless, and it finally took again to work. With the new line-up "Jonathan Trigger: Drums - Ryan Ridit: Vocals & Guitar - Gianni: Guitar - Soul Chris: Bass" the sound of Rayon began very hard, very strong, but Gianni decided to leave the band in the October of 2007. Jonathan, Ryan and Chris took immediately a decision to give a turning point to the band "Use Three Guitars" For this reason the band founded two new guitarists at the end of 2007, the twins Gabrielle and Mark, from Darkspell. The new year was a good year for the band, the new line-up "Jonathan Trigger: Drums - Ryan Ridit: Vocals & Guitar - Gabrielle: Guitar - Mark: Guitar - Soul Chris: Bass" had a lots of gigs in the first part of 2008 and in the June of the same year the band recorded the second demo tape "Born To Be Ready" at “The Bunker Studio” of Maurizio Sacquegno. “Born To Be Ready” had a good feedback from the most important Italian Webzine in the next mounths, meanwhile all songs were transmitted on Italian, American, Australian and Spanish Radios. The twins left the band in the Febrary of 2009, Gabrielle to join Stonecutters, insted Mark for personal problems. The guitarist Gold Member, from SlowDeath, immediatly took the empty place, and he took responsibility for the job of two guitars. The new line-up "Jonathan Trigger: Drums - Ryan Ridit: Vocals & Guitar – Gold Member: Guitar - Soul Chris: Bass" is ready to inflame the stages for the “Born To Be Ready Tour ‘09”
