DJ Rebel,
borned in Marseille. He started to experiment mix by playing music in different festivity (African community). A hip hop expert for years now, living in the US sound constantly. In the early days of Marseille hip hop, when IAM started, Rebel was already know for his musical science. Soon following IAM with his own crew called Soul Swing and Radical, he developped a personal sound and mix based on US black music, his mediterranean culture and his rich experiments.
Rebel never closed doors to external music projects, and explored long ago the combinaison of truntables and real live instruments with Doctor Sound, Magic Malik Orchestra. He is also involved in electro live set with the Troublemakers, then followed Shogun created from the reunion of Magic Malik (flute) and DJ Oil.
Benefit of his 25 years behing the wheels of steel, DJ Rebel, nicknamed «..le professeur..» due to his social involvment in the Scratch Workshop since 1997, and now he continued in his own structure MixEvolution13 (Marseille) teaching scratch culture and techniques nationwide and abroad, Maroc, Senegal, Ivory Coast, French Guyana and more.. building strong link with local and international artits.
Anyway Rebel is a french DJ reference, working and producing with IAM, Soul Swing, Faf La Rage, La Garde, Chroniques de Mars, Troublemakers, Magic Malik.. not to forget his world famous radio show Tempo Rebel, broadcasted live during 10 years on independant airwaves of Marseille city. In 2002, with his radio pals DJ C and Le Bijoutier, they founded Le Syndicat du Rythme an interactive radio show in public, mixing live gig and DJ sets and a video presentation.
His mixing style is fully cultural and include all styles of black music. From Montreal to Abidjan Rebel..s mixes are acclaimed, giving him the status of most popular french hip hop DJ.
No doubt, he was the only frenchman to be invited to the 26th Anniversary of Rock Steady Crew, right where hip hop was born, The Bronx..
