一般First step: Recycle your stuff. That's just basic. Second step: Get on your friends if they don't recycle their stuff. You don't have to be all mean about it, just let them know how beneficial recycling is. Third step: Dispel myths! MySpace Tracker
音樂RE3.org is a social marketing campaign designed to encourage people to adopt recycling as part of their everyday behavior at home, work and on-the-go. Previous recycling educational efforts made use of tried-and-true “factoids” - for example, “if we don’t recycle, landfills will fill up,” or “recycling one ton of paper saves seventeen trees.” Citing these same old arguments just isn’t good enough anymore. While current initiatives can get people to recycle, they clearly aren’t reaching everyone. The concept of social marketing helps fill that gap. Social marketing examines the barriers people perceive that prevent them from engaging in a behavior, and then acts to break down these barriers to promote behavior change. By making recycling easier – such as implementing an “all plastic bottles” recycling program – and showing its benefits – more jobs and more money in our economy – people will want to recycle.
電影RECYCLING MYTH: Recycling is Hard. As long as the community is able to provide adequate recycling opportunities and accessibility, recycling should not be difficult for the consumer. Providing bins and visuals in the community will help residents know what can be recycled. It is now easier than ever. Many communities accept commingled recycing where the material no longer needs to be separated by the individual. Also don’t worry about removing labels and caps – they are removed by machines during the separation process. More people recycle than vote! RECYCLING MYTH: Material placed in a landfill will decompose. Landfills are designed so that little oxygen or moisture flows through- two essential components of decomposition. Landfills are not meant to break down trash, but rather bury it. This design helps prevent decomposing materials from contaminating ground water. Thus recycling creates more space in landfills and lessens the chance of trash leeching into our soil and water. RECYLING MYTH: Recycling just becomes trash. Here is EPA’s response. While it is true that contamination can render some materials unfit for recycling (such as food residue on paper products), recycling corporations work hard to find markets for materials that are recycled. With new technology to separate and salvage materials and emerging markets for these materials, recyclers often find it feasible to partner with their end users to identify opportunities for reuse. Some materials will eventually find their way to the landfill or incinerator simply because they should not have been recycled in the first place. Educating consumers about what can and cannot be recycled will help in reducing the amount of materials that eventually must be disposed as waste. RECYCLING MYTH: There are no markets for recyclables. Here is the National Recycling Coalition response. - Demand for recycled materials has never been greater and, in many cases, exceeds the supply currently provided by the American public. - Rapid industrial development, particularly in China and other Asian nations, has created a huge surge in demand for recyclables. - Domestic and international markets exist for all materials collected in curbside recycling programs, as long as they meet basic quality standards. In fact, there is intense competition among users for many recycled materials. - The recycling industry is comparable in size to the auto and truck manufacturing industry. It's a large industry that demands lots of raw materials. - A recycled aluminum beverage can returns to the grocer's shelf as a new, filled can in as few as 60 days after collection, which tell us that the markets are functioning efficiently.
電視-Every year, North Carolinians throw away enough trash to circle the earth twice. - The trash we throw into the landfill each year in North Carolina is equivalent to the weight of 7,866,666 cars a year! -The amount of waste disposed in North Carolina has increased from 6.8 million tons in 1991 to 11.86 million tons in 2007. -With the amount of trash North Carolinians throw away, we fill enough dumpsters to line the N.C. coastline more than nine times every year. -The amount of trash North Carolinians throw away in 3.5 hours would fill dumpsters that reach as high as Mount Mitchell. That’s 6,684 feet! -With the amount of trash North Carolinians throw away, we would fill enough dumpsters to line the length of N.C.’s Interstate 40 more than six times in one year. That’s 2,555 miles of dumpsters each year. -North Carolinians throw away enough trash to fill Dumpsters from: • Asheville to Apex every 30 days • Asheville to Asheboro every 26 days • Boone to Bald Head every 47 days • Burlington to Beaufort every 26 days • Carrboro to Carolina Beach every 21 days • Charlotte to Cary every 20 days • Charlotte to Shelby in just under a week • Chowan to Cherokee every 68 days • Clayton to Concord every 21 days • Conover to Conetoe every 31 days • Duck to Durham every 30 days • Greensboro to Goldsboro every 20 days • Monroe to Manteo every 44 days • Winston Salem to Wilmington every 29 days • Winston Salem to Wilson every 20 days
書籍• Only half of aluminum cans are recycled despite a statewide disposal ban on the material. • North Carolinians recycle 85.4 pounds of materials a second. That’s impressive! But we throw away over 752 pounds of trash a second. That’s almost 9 times what we recycle. • NC throws away about 270 million dollars worth of recyclable goods each year. • North Carolinians throw away more than $74,072,000 in aluminum cans each year. • N.C. throws away enough glass each year to fill up over 11,800 tractor-trailers. If you put those tractor-trailers end to end they’d stretch from Asheville to Greensboro. • North Carolinians throw away more than $164,375,460 in mixed paper each year. • Last year NC trashed enough paper to fill nearly three football fields three feet deep. • NC only recycles half of what it can. Annually there are roughly over 2,000,000 tons of traditional recyclables remaining in North Carolina’s waste stream. These include paper, glass, #1 and #2 plastic, aluminum cans and steel cans.

   RE3.org 的自我介紹
關於我:
In 2004, the N.C. Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance created RE3.org, a recycling campaign geared toward a young adult demographic. RE3.org is designed to enhance and foster innovative advancements in current programs, helping take local outreach efforts to the next level. RE3.org materials can be used in programs, presentations and interaction with the public to promote the lifestyle of recycling, reducing and reusing. RE3.org uses social marketing techniques to increase participation in recycling – and to keep participation high. RE3.org materials are available to local government and college recycling coordinators, environmental educators, community groups and anyone else that may come into contact with the campaign. The goal is to get the message out to “mature” potential recyclers through the use of media and interpersonal channels. The RE3.org approach is fresh and different. We know recycling helps the earth, but that’s an old message. RE3.org aims to show North Carolinians other important aspects of recycling – the effect on the economy, jobs, energy use, air quality and land usage.

我想認識:
"It's just one little can. One little can can't change the world." Ever heard that? Makes you shake your head at the ignorance, doesn't it? That one little can is energy, water, pollution savings, jobs and more money for your hometown to spruce up, perk up and stand up. It's not what it can't do, but what it can do... FOR YOU! Enjoy counting beans? All over North Carolina, people just like you are employed, pay taxes, spend money and invest in their communities thanks to recycling. The stuff you recycle means that 14,000 North Carolinians have a job, and that means money for the economy. Still not convinced? How's this? All North Carolina's urban areas have gross air. Gross air means climate change, asthma and red level alert days. Wanna know the #1 thing you can do to help curb climate change? Reduce, reuse, recycle. No joke. Recycling helps lower emissions of smog-forming gases.

Personally, I hate parking lots --- but we have so many of them!  Sitting there, doing nothing but heating up the atmosphere, so solar parking lots!  Community-sustained, secure, renewable electricity!  Bonus = community jobs!  All over America!  So I’m back at university learning GIS to analyze each town’s paved parking areas  (Greensboro NC (pop 247,000) has 10.27 square miles of it that will power over 500,000 homes (every year) if covered with photovoltaics!) and I’m starting put_a_lid_on_it      …………..……….

Stay tuned!
