For nine years musicians Simon Tucker and Jacob Anderson of Lewiston, Idaho have written and performed their music throughout the Pacific Northwest. Along the way they picked up bassist Keith Simon, who joined in 2002, and drummer Bill Wilcox, formerly of The Polecats, who joined a year later to form read1984.
Their music reflects the folk tradition with socially conscious lyrics, fused within the improvisational aspect of jazz and blues, which gives their sound a mix of vintage rock, reggae, blues, and a soul-driven R&B. The band's name read1984 references the classic novel by George Orwell, which has been an influential piece of literature to all four members.
The two primary songwriters in the group, Tucker and Anderson, have both been writing since they were 13 and 14 years old. They have evolved together, playing folk, Delta blues, and original pieces acoustically when in-between bands or gigs.
After woking with an array of musicians, the duo finally found what they've been looking for in a band: a dedicated group willing to keep an open mind about new music and an ability to play consistently tight, energized sets from night to night. Without the aid of Simon on bass, and Wilcox on drums, none of that would be possible. “The glue that holds a good band together is a really good rhythm section, and we definitely have that." says Tucker.
Currently, read1984 has just finished a self recorded and produced album that will be pressed and ready for release in April, 2007. The band is now focused on moving outside the Lewiston Clarkston Valley to spread their music and gain a wider audience throughout the region. With over 200 original songs, and many in the works between Anderson and Tucker, the end is not in sight.
“We have played shows with 5 people in the audience, and we have headlined for thousands at festivals. We just love to play anywhere we can.” "Our main goal," as Anderson states, "is to have people question the answers. Even if they don't get the message, they won't be able to ignore the energy and passion which our words cannot express. That is the sound of read1984."

hey my friend saw your profile and thinks you look hot! she is new to myspace but wants to chat with you on msn messenger her name on there is emily22cello@hotmail.com
Great f ucking show! I have to say that it was like seeing Jimi Hendrix back in his prime were he to do SNL or something. Sure, there were a few songs that were kind of ho-hum. But damn, when you guys were on, it was friggen good. I've known a lot of the Old Rock establishment of the valley for years, and in my humble estimation you guys were perhaps the best band I'm aware of ever to come out of the valley. Had you been on SNL, you would have went to the top. Just needed the regional media to get involved.
Okay don't let that go to your heads. Because aside from being able to groove, you're all damn nice people.
OK. So I am sitting here staring at my monitor. Fumbling thru my mind searching for words....hopefully, right words to express my thoughts.
I have followed you guys for years, and have enjoyed every moment. I have seen the good times, and I have seen some tough times, and know that it has been sometimes difficult to keep it all together. But you did.
I can't lay claims to being your biggest fan. You have family, and closer friends than I, that have stood beside you thru it all. But, you should know that I am a HUGE fan and I really love you guys. Not just as a musical group, but as people that I have grown to know and respect as friends, as well.
While I am sad to see Read1984 disband, I have the utmost faith that whatever each one of you should put your hands to, you will be capable of great things! For years, you have stood as a group. Now it is time to stand on your own.
I will always treasure the memories. And I wish each one of you nothing but the best, and many successes in the future.
I look forward to seeing you all again, together or individually. And I'll be secretely waiting for the reunion tours to come around....
Whats up? I found this site and thought i'd tell everyone, it shows you if anyone at school likes you. I dont know how it works but its really cool, it told me a couple different people who have crushes on me since gradeschool. You gotta try it!
I'm sorry to hear that you guys are braking up. I can't be there for your last night. I wish I could be there for that last night. But I will say that you will be missed. I love your music. I wish you guys all the best with what you do in you lifes. Bambi McMaster
