The Reading Fringe Festival is a showcase for local talent in music, comedy and the arts, held in the lead-up to the Carling Reading Festival.
2005's fringe festival saw music ranging from Aqua Livae's roots reggae to Pure Reason Revolution's nu-prog, via the cartoon-ska-pop of sixnationstate, while people flocked to dance lessons, art exhibitions and comedy shows all over town. 2006 saw an even more comprehensive programme planned, with the festival branching out into film and theatre as well as music, art, comedy and dance. 2007 followed in the same vein and plans are now under way for 2008, the Fringes fourth year.
Reading has for a long time been a major player in the arts scene, playing host to the Carling Reading Festival, WOMAD and many others, and proudly boasts a thriving community of local musicians, actors, comedians, dancers and artists. The Reading Fringe Festival aims to nurture links between different fields, genres and cultures, and to actively seek out, encourage and promote new talent.
