About me:
Journals
A book by Louise Palanker
A young girl takes a forbidden journey into family history and discovers that what's more important than finding the answers is being brave enough to ask the questions.
"Journals," by Louise Palanker, dares to ask the difficult questions that tug at 10-16 year old kids or anyone who has ever been one. (This may include most adults)
Have you ever wondered what boys are thinking about girls or what they're thinking about love and sex? Have you ever wanted to know why your parents are moody or always mad at you?
Have you ever really needed to know why some people can hate other people enough to kill them?
These are just some of the gigantic questions haunting 12-year-old, Lanie Spurdle who lives in Buffalo, New York in 1970.
Of course, she's equally troubled by the smaller questions like, "Why do I have to wear a bra?" and "Does Clayton Murray like me as much as I like him?"
But as she begins to write in her journal and as she discovers and reads her father's World War II journal, the world comes into sharper focus for Lanie.
Do all of her questions get answered? Well, maybe and maybe not. But Lanie learns that the most important thing of all is not so much getting the answer, but the sweet and surprising bonds that blossom when you ask the question.
About the Author

Louise Palanker is an accomplished writer/producer/performer in the arenas of radio, television, stage and stand-up comedy. As co-founder of Premiere Radio Networks, Louise wrote, produced and performed in over 20 programs and services for Premiere Radio, the nation's largest radio syndication company, now a division of Clear Channel.
Louise was a writer and segment producer for PM Magazine and served as the original Head Writer for "The Rick Dees Weekly Top 40."
In 2000, Louise launched a charitable foundation dedicated to children's causes. She began a stand-up comedy program at Southern California Boys & Girls' Clubs and Jewish Centers where kids learn to write and perform their own comedy.
Louise produces "Comedy Nights," stand-up comedy shows in and around Southern California, including two weekly shows in Santa Barbara, California.
She is currently directing and producing a documentary about the famed 60s family pop band, The Cowsills and producing a television project with Henry Winkler.
Louise hosts an acclaimed weekly podcast with Diane Dimond and Lee Jay Berman called "Talk it Over," heard on iTunes and she performs stand-up comedy at clubs in and around Southern California.
The book, "Journals" is semi-autobiographical and much of what happens to the character, "Lanie," actually happened to Louise. The characters in the book are based on Louise's family, friends, and teachers.
Thank you for reading this far, especially if you are not Louise's Mom.

Here's what fellow readers are saying about Journals
"This book was magnificent! It relates to girls our age and what we are going to go through.
Previously, we read, Are You There God? It's me, Margaret, by Judy Blume. That book used to be our favorite until we read this one! This book was so great that we will probably never like a book as much as this one!
The author should write sequels to this book. I know we will read them!"
Allison B. and Arielle P.
EXCELLENT!!! I have an 11 year old and it was just like listening to her. Thanks for the eloquent insight to a preteen girl's life!

It's wonderful! very authentic, and I like the style of alternating between the "adult version" and the "kid version" of events. Will share it with my 12-year-old daughter.
Suzanne
It's right on target with the things that happen to kids going through puberty. I am going to have my 12 year old read it I know she will relate!
Raquel
This book provides exact examples of what young teens or preteens are going through...even if I'm 15...I still enjoyed reading it!
Nat
I think this book is really good-especially for girls around my age, 11-15. It really gives a lot of good insight on how scary and unscary it is to go through the "becoming an adult" stage. I think every girl should read this and "Are you there, God, it's me, Margaret."
Sarah
This book is too cute...I'm turning sixteen soon, so I've already gone through most of this stuff...Luckily, nothing as bad as what happened to Lanie has happened to me...I wish my father had a journal for me to read like that...You're a great author!
Blake
Oh it is amazingly great!!! It's like it's all really happening in my head!
jess
This is soooo coolness. I love it! There's no word to describe it, I totally relate to it! I'm going on 13 soon and I really understand it. In short, I LOVE IT.
Cristyl
I'm 80 yrs old & this brings back lots of memories. thank you.
Dot
I just want to say that I really enjoyed reading this book. I am 23 years old. 2 thumbs up.

I'm a 15 year old female and these situations that Lanie was in feel so familiar to me. This should be read by all parents to see what our lives are really like. Submitted by: Miranda
Oh my lord this is such a great book. You've got me on the edge of my seat! Amie
I loved the story. Puberty brings wild things to people. Its funny, sad, cute, and everything else. Another thing I love is I am the same age/grade as Lanie!
Kyle
This is fantastic. There are many accurate descriptions of what it was really like in middle school. It really speaks to me because middle school was the worst 3 years of my life thus far. Even though it is written from a girl's point of view, the issues this story addresses are relevant for both sexes.
Dan
This story is definitely one of the best I've ever read. Thank You!
Irish
When the story is published, I am going to be the first in line to buy it. 10 out of 10.
Samantha
Omg I love this soo much! its just a real life book with plenty of cute middle school twists and turns.
Brooke
This book is fantastic I'm loving it I'm going to recommend it to my friends and I'm sure pretty that they're going to love it the way that I love it.
